Position Summary

The Lead Life Navigator provides hands-on daily support to participants, focusing on life skills, parenting, child development, and household management. This role works directly with participants in their living environment to help build structure, stability, accountability, and independence. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, and able to provide both encouragement and structure in a trauma-informed environment.

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 30–32 hours per week. Candidates must be available for  2nd shift coverage based on program needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model and teach household management skills, including meal preparation, cleaning routines, organization, and maintaining a safe living environment
  • Provide parenting support, including helping establish routines related to bedtime, feeding, school preparation, and child structure
  • Oversee the Muhindi Room by maintaining a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for children
  • Document child development observations and communicate concerns or progress with participants as appropriate
  • Guide participants in budgeting, savings, goal-setting, and basic financial habits
  • Facilitate group sessions focused on life skills, routines, time management, communication, and personal responsibility
  • Conduct home visits to reinforce household structure, cleanliness, and participant accountability
  • Ensure shared spaces are clean, organized, stocked, and ready for participant use
  • Support participant engagement in program activities including Ujamaa, Umoja, and Sankofa initiatives
  • Provide real-time coaching, support, and redirection as needed throughout daily interactions
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to participant support and program engagement

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to teach, model, and reinforce practical life skills
  • Experience working with children and supporting healthy child development
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to provide hands-on support in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to balance compassion with accountability and structure
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills in residential or family-support settings
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and participant-centered support

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with families, children, or young adults
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks such as lifting, organizing, cleaning, and moving items as needed
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience
