EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE STATUS: Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: AAEA is committed to enhancing the skills, knowledge, and professional contribution of agricultural and applied economists and to the advancement of the profession.

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for crafting and maintaining the association’s internal and external communications within the strategic framework developed by the AAEA leadership.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (37.5 hours/week):

  • General Communications
    • Coordinate communications generated from the business office including keeping a schedule of emails, proofreading outgoing messages, and formatting messages into an HTML template.
    • Check AAEA general voicemail inboxes and respond to inquiries or forward to appropriate staff.
    • Check AAEA general email inbox and respond to inquiries or forward to appropriate staff.
    • Liaise with Mentorship Committee, Choices Editorial Board, and AETR Editorial Board, including scheduling conference calls, agenda and meeting material preparation, minute taking and serving as a resource for committee members.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Media
    • Find, gather and send weekly news stories from Google Alerts for our “Members in the News”
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Publications
    • Coordinate publication of outreach materials including Choices.
    • Coordinate email alerts for Choices releases weekly.
    • Coordinate publication of internal publications including the Applied Economics Teaching Resources (AETR)
    • Coordinate email alerts for AETR when needed
    • Help maintain and update the teams’ Content Calendar regularly.
    • Coordinate distribution of editor checks semi-annually.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Website
    • Assist Senior Communications & Membership Manager in maintaining association website and annual meeting website including making updates and corrections and creating new pages using a content management system.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Meeting
    • Assist Senior Communications & Membership Manager with Annual Meeting promotions, including development of marketing materials and maintaining the Annual Meeting website.
    • Work with Meetings Coordinator to draft and release the On Demand emails for AAEA Annual Meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned.

AMOUNT OF TRAVEL REQUIRED: (total weeks per year): One to two weeks per year. Some weekend and evening work may be required.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Work experience in an office environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong proofreading skills. Experience working with social media platforms and tools in a professional setting. Experience working with Google Analytics, content management systems, and HTML coding. Experience working with mass media and press release development preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Some packaging and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to move quickly and frequently within the meeting facilities.

*This position is located in downtown Milwaukee, WI and dedicated weekly days in the office are a requirement of the role.
