ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to join our Finance Team. This position is responsible for accounts payable, including recording of all Milwaukee Rescue Mission (MRM) expenses through established accounts payable controls and processes, and issuing related payments.  This position also handles all bank entries, gift cards, petty cash and associated filling.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time or Part-time position available

  • Full-time:  1st Shift, Monday-Friday
  • Part-time: 20-25 hrs/week commitment.  Willing to be flexible with schedule (work days, hrs per day, and start/end times btw 7:00am-5:00pm)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Record invoices that are properly approved by management and process related payments, which are issued at least weekly
  • Maintain gift card and petty cash distribution and associated record keeping
  • Ensure all expenses are properly entered into the accounting system and charges are allocated to the proper general ledger accounts and departments
  • Process daily credit card contributions and monthly sustainer records
  • Process bank entries (deposits, cash orders, etc.) and associated Sage Intacct entries and filings
  • Make journal entries as instructed by the Controller
  • File Accounting department records and maintain department files
  • Assist with the month end close, annual budget or annual audit, as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree or greater in business-related field required (Finance or Accounting preferred)
  • Two years of job related experience in accounting preferred
  • Working knowledge of Sage Intacct or other accounting software preferred
  • Dependable and ability to maintain a very high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle confidential situations and documentation
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines
  • A workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian church environment: civil, respectful, polite and responsive
  • Be in agreement with and subscribe to the MRM Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions
  • Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
