The Executive Director serves as the executive leader to advance NAMI Washington County’s (NAMI WC) mission, strategic plan, philosophy, financial, operational and staff management. The Executive Director (ED) works alongside the President of the Board of Directors (BOD) to implement strategic goals and fulfill the Board’s governance requirements. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is under the general supervision of the President of the Board.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- Responsible for the daily administrative functions and efficiency of office operations.
- Works in concert with the staff, the BOD, and volunteers to establish organizational direction and carry out NAMl’s mission-to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness and to promote recovery.
- Ensure the NAMI WC mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.
- Promotes awareness and visibility of NAMl’s vision and direction in Washington County.
- Maintains knowledge of community needs, current issues, and legislative challenges, as they relate to the mission of the organization.
- Represents NAMI Washington County as its Executive Director in interactions with other organizations, individuals, and community members.
- Serves as primary spokesperson with the media and within the mental health community.
- Ensures all legal obligations are met, including the reporting to all regulatory bodies and compliance with legislative stakeholders.
- Enhances NAMI WC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
- Meets the obligations of communication with NAMI National and NAMI Wisconsin.
Program Development & Administration
- In collaboration with the Program Director, develops and oversees implementation of new programs to meet community needs.
- Supports the Program Director to evaluate effectiveness and diversity of programs.
Financial Management
- Ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals.
- Develop and manage a fiscal budget. Review Profit & Loss Statement quarterly and suggest changes as appropriate.
- In collaboration with Board Treasurer, ensure compliance with state and federal financial regulations (i.e. Annual Financial Review and IRS Form 990).
- Processes payable invoices and incoming revenue. Codes for Board Treasurer.
- Approves purchases and expenditures within limits of the BOD approved budget.
- Manages the selection, purchase, and maintenance of office equipment.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments, made and entered into and on behalf of the organization (as approved by BOD).
- Protects all assets by ensuring proper insurance coverage and adequate security.
Fund Development & Marketing
- Responsible for all aspects of fund development. Research, write, and manage awarded grants. Prepares grant reports in accordance with grantor requirements.
- Executes annual mail campaign. Designs and writes solicitation materials for potential donors, current donors, and NAMI WC members.
- Cultivates relationships with funding sources and donors.
- Assists the Marketing Committee with the execution of an annual fundraising event.
Board of Directors
- Works with the BOD to fulfill the organization mission.
- Works with the BOD in the development of a strategic plan to align with the goals of respective committees.
- Supports, advances and assists, the ongoing success of Board composition and process. Assists in the preparation of meeting materials and annual meeting.
- Provides all information necessary for the BOD to function properly, make informed decisions and fulfill governance obligations.
- Actively participates in board meetings and committee meetings as required.
Human Resources
- Administers and ensures execution of NAMI WC policies and procedures and follows charter obligations to NAMI National.
- Responsible human resource management to include development of policy and procedure manual, recruitment, training, performance evaluation and termination.
- Ensures all human resource actions are in alignment with state employment laws.
- Provides updates to the Board of Directors regarding any human resource issues.
- Inspires a creative workplace to be collaborative and problem-solving oriented while ensuring high morale and retention.
- Signs all necessary papers in connection with human resource management.
- Other duties as assigned by the President, NAMI Washington County Board of Directors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Related Bachelor’s degree.
- Knowledge and experience in business administration and management.
- Demonstrated experience integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management.
- Knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Human services
- Finance (including budget development and management)
- Human resources
- Oral and written communications. Proficient in public speaking and training facilitation skills for diverse audiences.
- All aspects of fund development and grant management
- Planning and evaluation (program and organization capacity)
- A high level of interpersonal skills to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people from all segments of the community.
- Comfortable with diversity and respectful of a wide range of faiths, beliefs, and experiences.
- Excellent time management skills, detail management, organizational skills, and priority setting.
- Strong self-motivation, ability to take initiative, and manage a variety of diversified tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the focus of participant and outreach customer satisfaction.
- Maintains confidentiality, a high degree of professionalism, and uses sound judgment.
- Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must pass a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, human services, public administration, etc.
- Working knowledge of NAMI and NAMl WC’s programs.
- Experience in the mental health field, the field of philanthropy, not-for-profit management and governance, and community relations
- Experience with the mental health system in Washington County and Wisconsin.
- Lived experience with mental health conditions as a family member, friend, or peer.
Benefits
Depending on experience and program coverage and hours, a hybrid schedule may be offered after 120 days of employment.
