Position Overview

The Development Coordinator will be a key part of the Development team at Next Door. This team understands the needs of Next Door and the families served, works with the program team to identify funding needs, and develops a comprehensive fundraising and stewardship plan to engage donors in philanthropy to support these programs.

The Development Coordinator is a self-motivated, organized and team-oriented individual who is responsible for implementing annual fundraising strategies, creating detailed plans, and coordinating logistics for a team of staff and/or volunteers to reach fundraising goals.  

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Mission: Positively represent and communicate Next Door’s mission, vision and programs to potential funders and in the community.
  • Relationships: Identify, qualify, engage, cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with donors and prospects through broad-based efforts. Implement strategies for engagement of donor groups.
  • Annual Gifts: Implement annual fundraising plans for donor appeals, fundraising events, and donor communications. Develop detailed project management plans to identify objectives, outcomes, audiences, messages, channels, and timelines. Coordinate plan logistics, communicate expectations to all project team members and hold them accountable to complete tasks and to meet deadlines.
  • Events: Plan and implement the annual Walk for Children and other fundraising and community awareness events. Engage sponsors, participants, volunteers and staff in efforts. Plan and implement donor engagement and third-party events and activities.
  • Donor Relations: Plan and implement annual donor relations plans including acknowledgments, communications, recognition and events for all prospect groups. Schedule donor visits and tours and track engagement actions in the database.
  • Database: Provide back up to gift entry and supporting reports. Update and maintain donor files.
  • Support: Support the Vice President of Development and Communication with donor records, research, strategy and correspondence.
  • Programs: Establish and maintain relationships with program staff to understand the needs of the families served, understand program details and funding needs and that facilitate healthy, nurturing, interactive engagement of donors and prospects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Associates degree required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in non-profit fund development or events preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally, with peer and executive levels, and with community partners and volunteers.
  • Computer literate and Microsoft Office experience required.
  • Experience working with fund development software (ex. Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a high level of maturity in social and professional settings.
  • Ability to work and cooperate on all levels as a team member.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Confidentiality regarding clients and staff is required.
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with a diverse population.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for events.
  • Ability to drive and/or travel to work-related functions/meetings.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle to use on a daily basis, maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance with liability limits of $300,000 (bodily injury) and $25,000 (property damage for each occurrence).
  • Must be willing to have a Tuberculosis Skin Test at the time of hire.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit/stand and move freely throughout the day.  The employee must also climb stairs and walk frequently, with bending, twisting and reaching.
