The Communications Director will operate from the belief that communication is a ministry that inspires community engagement for persons to understand, become involved in and supportive of the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame of the Central Pacific Province. The Director works within a strong team environment and provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of communications strategies for internal and external, current and prospective audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Integrate the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in the work environment
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and maintain positive relationships
  • Supervise the communications staff members in the Central Pacific (CP) Province and direct the staff’s work.
  • Maintain a positive and productive team mindset
  • Research, design, implement, monitor and evaluate a creative, comprehensive communications plan that can be expanded or modified as needed
  • Review all submitted, internal and external, marketing and communications materials to ensure that the resources and message are consistent with the Central Pacific Province’s communication plan
  • Collaborate with the Provincial Council when necessary and ensure execution of any of their Province communication requests
  • Manage collaboratively and delegate appropriately responsibilities for the practicalities of communications using all media: personal, electronic, print, social media
  • Identify current external and internal audiences and design media to engage them in the realities of the Central Pacific Province
  • Deliberately seek new audiences and new opportunities to present messages
  • Serve as an integral member of the CP Mission Leaders Team
  • Travel to appropriate locations within the Central Pacific Province
  • Other duties as assigned

Communications

  • Serve as editor of Province marketing and communication materials; work collaboratively with the Resource Development Director to oversee the writing, production and distribution of materials including though not limited to: Province newsletter, annual reports, fundraising/event materials, donor recognition materials, program flyers, brochures, etc.

Media Relations

  • Direct the development and maintenance of province media relationships including a database, media monitoring and reporting

Community Relations

  • Collaborate with Province Departments and manage the production of common communications materials to promote the SSND mission

Website/Social Media

  • Responsible for the content and style of the Province website
  • Maximize the impact of the Province website, including updates and changes in collaboration
  • Ensure the Province is using the social media market to its potential

Administration

  • Design, implement and evaluate the Province communication plan
  • Develop and oversee the Province’s Communications budget
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of department staff and contract employees
  • Manage team members’ productivity and job duties. Hire, train, support, review, retain or dismiss staff
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the leadership contact
  • Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism or Marketing/Communications preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience in communications of publications and/or media related fields
  • Experience in a non-profit or religious setting helpful
  • At least five years of supervisory work experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize multiple and conflicting priorities
  • Professionally motived and able to function in a multi-state organization with flexibly and focus
  • Action-oriented; a strong, efficient problem solver, able to make appropriate decisions and take action when needed
  • Ability to network with others and work collaboratively
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Understanding the linkage between the Province’s mission and marketing/public relations
  • Familiarity with technological developments in communications and ability to use same
  • Ability to drive a car and travel as needed
  • Value the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and religious life in the Catholic Church
