Job Purpose: The Education Coordinator supports, maintains, evaluates, and improves all aspects of adult education programing, including GED preparation, High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) 5.09 classes, and GED/Pearson Vue testing.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with all aspects of adult education programs including service delivery, record-keeping, and other necessary functions to ensure all set forth benchmarks are met.
  • Serve as point of contact for students, oversee and lead student intake, orientation, enrollment, matriculation, and graduation.
  • Track students’ attendance and overall progress, ensuring they are on track to complete the program.
  • Create academic calendars, create students’ schedules, rosters, and other information as needed per semester. Create, complete, and pull academic reports or documents as required.
  • Serve as point of contact for all instructors, helping them maintain a successful classroom environment.
  • Maintain constant outreach to all students, including potential students, to ensure successful enrollment and completion.
  • Assist with curriculum development for all subjects including mathematics, writing, reading, health, science, social studies, employability and civics.
  • Assist HSED (5.09) classes in all capacities as needed.
  • Act as liaison to community partners, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and other Community Based Organizations (CBOs).
  • Maintain accurate paper and electronic files (CAP60) including but not limited to (intake, case history and other case management services) for the Education department.
  • Become certified in and assist with the administration of the following tests: TABE 11, TABE 12, Pearson Vue’s professional exams, GED practice tests (GED-Ready), and official GED tests, overseeing computerized exams according to established procedures and systems.
  • Complete reports as required by stakeholders, funders, and other entities.
  • Assist in completion of an annual renewal as required by the Department of Public Instruction.
  • Stay up-to-date on new education technologies, best practices, and trends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently or in small group
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of adult education best practices, trends, and theories.
  • Working knowledge of adult education exams.
  • Certified as or the ability to become a Pearson Vue Administrator.
  • Certified as or the ability to become a GED Examiner.
  • Ability to create and implement systems relating to program effectiveness.


Bachelor’s degree in Education: Adult, Middle/High School and certification as GED Examiner.  Two year’s experience in Adult Education, GED Test Administration, GED class instruction and/or administration in urban environment.

The incumbent will regularly sit, and will frequently talk and listen and use hands to finger, handle or touch.  Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. During the performance of his/her duties, the incumbent will regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
