SUPERVISOR: Director of Crisis Services
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment: Recruit, interview, and select volunteers and interns to fill a range of supportive roles throughout the agency. Develop new and strengthen existing connections with community and professional organizations, tertiary institutions, local high schools, and networks for the purposes of recruiting and outreach. Develop, update and distribute flyers, brochures, social media posts and additional publications for recruitment and outreach purposes.
Onboarding: Conduct reference checks and maintain volunteer personnel files in accordance with federal, state, and agency regulations. Complete and update onboarding documentation. Serve as the lead point of contact for volunteer opportunities, student intern placements, and in-kind donations.
Training: Coordinate volunteer/intern orientation and training to ensure necessary skills and training requirements are obtained and documented. Develop and update training materials and volunteer policy and procedures manual. Ensure staff are trained to provide direct, ongoing supervision to all volunteers/interns. Obtain training and certification in all areas of shelter operations to ensure compliance.
Community Outreach & Engagement: Serve as a liaison with community and professional organizations sharing and exchanging ideas, referrals, resources, and information. Respond to inquiries from prospective volunteer groups and in-kind donors. Maintain partnerships with local high schools, colleges, and universities in order to recruit volunteers and interns. Promote all programs and events through social media, website content, publications, and tabling at community events to enhance program visibility. Help develop and maintain engaging content for the website.
Supervision: Coordinate scheduling of volunteers, interns, and group service days. Provide overall supervision for volunteers, interns, and in-kind donations. Ensure program effectiveness through regular program evaluation tracking methods. In accordance with the policies and procedures, enforce disciplinary measures for volunteers to address any misconduct, poor performance, or violations of company policy. Receive, manage, and report monthly on all volunteer in-kind hours and donations made to the agency. Provide support to the Director of Development with annual gala and administrative duties as needed.
Staff Support: Consult with shelter staff on volunteer and outreach programs. Assign volunteers/interns to shelter staff for direct day to day supervision and training. Address questions and concerns regarding volunteer supervision and performance. Provide support and feedback to all staff on the performance of volunteers/interns.
Consultation: Assist in phone or in-person consultation in areas of intake assessment, crisis stabilization, and/or assistance with shelter care services as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Previous experience supervising volunteers or staff.
- Bachelor’s level degree in social work, non-profit management, or similar major, plus program coordination and supervisory experience preferred;
- Commitment to Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center’s mission and core values;
- Open-minded about different cultures, beliefs, and identities; strong leadership and oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and e-mail correspondence;
- Access to car; valid Wisconsin driver’s license; proof and maintenance of auto insurance;
- Completion of certifications, background and reference checks, and continuing education as required by state and agency regulations; and ability to climb stairs and some lifting;
- Ability to work occasional weekend or evening hours as needed to meet volunteer and intern schedules and attend community events.
COMPENSATION: $42,000 – $47,000 commiserate with experience
BENEFITS: Employees receive paid time off for vacation and sick days, in addition to floating holidays. Health insurance, dental insurance, and retirement plans are available to full time employees.
