ABOUT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN ROUNDTABLE:

We are seeking a passionate, responsible, and relationship-driven Youth Leadership Organizer to help grow and develop the next generation of Black leaders in Milwaukee.

This is an exciting opportunity for a young organizer who believes in the power of Black communities, is committed to social change, and is ready to build relationships that move people into action. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to talk to new people, take initiative, follow through on commitments, and help create opportunities for young people to lead.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The African American Roundtable seeks a passionate, responsible, and self-motivated Youth Leadership Organizer to help build the next generation of Black leaders in Milwaukee. The Youth Leadership Organizer will recruit, engage, organize, and develop young people through relationship-building, political education, leadership development, and grassroots organizing. The organizer will help strengthen connections between young people, schools, community organizations, and movement partners while supporting campaigns focused on issues impacting Black communities, including education justice, community safety, civic engagement, and systems change.

We are looking for someone who is not only passionate about social change, but who is willing to do the day-to-day work of organizing: building relationships, making calls, having one-on-one conversations, showing up consistently, and helping move people into action. The ideal candidate is dependable, accountable, eager to learn, and committed to building collective power alongside Black youth and communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Membership Development and Community Outreach

  • Recruit, retain, and engage youth members through relationship-building and leadership development

  • Help identify community priorities and translate concerns into organizing strategies and campaign goals
  • Participate in planning and implementing organizing strategies, projects, events, and campaigns that further AART’s mission
  • Represent the African American Roundtable at meetings, coalition spaces, community events, and public engagements

Leadership Development and Political Education

  • Develop and facilitate leadership development, political education, and organizing trainings for youth members
  • Provide mentorship and coaching that strengthen organizing, advocacy, facilitation, and public leadership skills
  • Embed AART’s values throughout youth programming, communication, retreats, and organizing spaces
  • Learn and practice AART’s abolition culture and politic
  • Support young people in becoming leaders capable of organizing for systems change and Black liberation

Program Coordination and Administration

  • Coordinate meetings, trainings, events, and organizing activities both virtually and in person
  • Support planning for youth events, public education sessions, retreats, and mobilizations
  • Assist with communication materials including newsletters, outreach materials, and social media content
  • Maintain outreach documentation, participation records, calendars, and program updates
  • Provide regular updates regarding goals, strategy, and engagement efforts
