The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time Youth Programs Specialist to join our team that serves more than 7,000 young people each year. As the Youth Program Specialist, you will make an impact by engaging young people in our mission through fun, hands-on programs. This role is based at our Racine Campus and occasionally supports programs at our Milwaukee Campus. The Youth Programs Specialist reports to the Director of Youth Programs and typically works 40 hours, Monday through Friday. Key accountabilities: 

  • Lead high impact youth programs in alignment with organizational resources and priorities
    • Lead youth programs year-round that engage young people ages 2-18 in the Wisconsin Humane Society’s mission, particularly scout programs, camps, birthday parties, Kids’ Night Outs, story times, and field trip programs
    • Lead summer camps from June through August for young people in grades 1-9
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support youth program volunteers
  • Participate as a member of the youth programs team in planning and implementing the organization’s youth engagement strategy
  • Ensure excellent customer service and delivery of programs consistent with organization and community priorities
  • Support promotional strategy by connecting with families, schools, and community partners
  • Develop and maintain relationships with youth serving professionals in the Racine community
  • Ensure programming is delivered in alignment with the Racine youth programs budget
  • Track program metrics that support program and organizational impact and engagement goals; pull reports as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience and skill working with diverse groups of young people
  • Demonstrated alignment with our mission, people-centered philosophy, and organizational values of compassion, respect, and kindness; innovation; professionalism; equity; and positive approach
  • Works well with a team and can lead programs with minimal supervision
  • Dedicated to providing strong customer service
  • Understanding or a desire to understand systemic challenges that affect underserved communities
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, teachers, and community partners
  • Excellent and oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a safe Caregiver background check
  • Must be able to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
  • Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pulling, and lifting. Must be able to safely handle animals.
