ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is seeking an Assistant Director of Human Resources to assist in leading a comprehensive human resources function in support of the mission of Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Specific areas of responsibilities include benefits management, HR training, employee relations, onboarding and managing HR systems.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 1st Shift, Monday-Friday

LOCATION: Central Campus, 830 N 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI. 53233

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Benefits Management:

  • Administer employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending, health savings accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k)
  • Participate in quarterly and annual benefits renewal meetings with plan consultants to assess plan performance and evaluate alternative options in line with strategic and budget goals
  • Monitor ongoing benefit expenses and claims reports throughout the plan year
  • Manage and assist employees with the benefits enrollment system
  • Prepare new employee files
  • Assist employees with health, dental, vision, life and disability benefit claims
  • Manage the communication, plan guides and setup for the annual open enrollment period
  • Partner with Retirement Plan TPA’s on bi-weekly contribution questions, 401k annual audit, 5500 tax filing and annual census, employee eligibility and 401k loans and withdrawals
  • Partner with Retirement Consultants to coordinate 401k enrollment meetings
  • Attend annual 401k performance review meetings with plan consultants
  • Coordinate, report and follow-up on all worker’s compensation claims
  • Coordinate and assist staff and supervisors with all leave based requirements

Training:

  • Provide support and serve as a resource in the development and delivery of HR specific training initiatives
  • Serve as a trainer/facilitator as needed for specific HR related training

Employee Relations/Performance Management:

  • Provide coaching and counsel to supervisors and staff in positive employee relations and conflict management
  • Provide counsel for consistent and effective performance improvement, disciplinary reviews and termination procedures in line with MRM established goals and policies
  • Participate in meetings regarding staff and supervisor concerns as needed
  • Conduct exit interviews with staff, compiles data for HR KPI Reports, and manages the employee exit process
  • Assist in the performance management process including
  • Manager training, communication and support
  • System review and monitoring

Other:

  • Participate in the evaluation of the new employee onboarding program, reviewing survey data and makes recommendations to improve the new hire experience
  • Assist in providing counsel on applicability of MRM employee handbook policies and employment related laws and regulations, and making approved updates to the handbook
  • Assist in the development and presentation of HR Key Performance Indicator reports
  • Develop effective and professional working relationships with leaders and staff on both campuses. Actively participates as a member of the HR team
  • Assist the VP of HR with the administration of all aspects of human resources services and program. Serves as a backup to the VP for HR role in their absence as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and professional HR Certification strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years professional HR leadership experience with an emphasis on benefits management, training and employee relations in a non-profit setting preferred
  • Prior experience with HRIS systems and data management preferred
  • Dependable and ability to maintain a very high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent administrative, problem solving and communication skills
  • Detail orientated and thorough with strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Ability to create and maintain a high level of trust with leaders and staff throughout the organization
  • Excellent proficiency with HRIS systems
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle confidential situations and documentation
  • High level of understanding of labor laws, benefits policies and best practices
  • A workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian church environment: civil, respectful, polite, and responsive
  • Be in agreement with and subscribe to the MRM Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions
  • Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
