Organization Summary:
MKE FreshAir Collective is an environmental justice non-profit focused on outdoor and indoor air quality in Milwaukee Wisconsin. We’re a small, passionate team that believes in improving Milwaukee’s environmental health. We manage a network of 30 air sensors across the city to monitor neighborhood-level air quality, and provide Milwaukee’s only program for free residential radon testing.
Our mission statement: MKE FreshAir Collective is committed to collecting accurate data, fostering meaningful community engagement, and driving action to improve indoor and outdoor air quality in Milwaukee with a steadfast focus on equity and dismantling systemic racism.
Position Summary:
We are hiring three student interns this summer to assist with programmatic activities along three different priority and focuses:
- Social Media Management
- Community Outreach
- Air Quality & Health Policy
Much of the internship can be completed remotely, but all three positions will have expectations of attending some community events in-person throughout the summer. There is a lot of flexibility to work with your schedule.
The ideal candidate would enjoy creative problem-solving; expanding current projects with your own ideas; and being passionate about community work.
This position is a good fit for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in public health, environmental science, communications, art & design, or anyone with interests in air quality, graphic design, community engagement, and/or environmental justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop social media content (on Canva or other preferred application)
- Attend community events, including set up, conversations with the public, and clean-up of tabling supplies
- Assist in survey distribution about neighborhood air quality metrics
- Track engagement metrics on social media and at community events
- Brainstorm ideas, connections, & inspiration
Compensation:
This internship pays $2,000 for approximately 10 hours for 10 weeks over the summer.
