Part-Time HSED Instructor

The Part-Time HSED instructor is responsible for the overall success of the HSED component of LSW’s pre-apprenticeship and Integrated Education and Training programs, primarily teaching YouthBuild courses for adults aged 18 to 24.  The position requires innovative and creative approaches to instruction as well as elements of program design; learner-centered educational services; curriculum development and lesson planning specific to the areas of language arts, math, and social studies; and recordkeeping and reporting on outcomes achieved.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver curricula contextualized for the construction and healthcare trades in Math, Social Studies, and Language Arts
  • Monitor on-going progress of learners through pre- and post- assessments, both formally and informally throughout the semester
  • Evaluate teaching materials for effectiveness and appropriateness; adapt available materials to meet learner needs
  • Design and/or implement supplementary materials as needed
  • Maintain attendance records and other data, and generate accurate reports as required
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with program partners and service sites.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with background in education or related field
  • Familiarity or previous work experience within the construction or healthcare trades preferred
  • 1-2 years of small group teaching experience using educational curricula and resources
  • Ability to develop lesson plans that differentiate types of instruction
  • Previous experience in adult education or working with diverse adult populations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service skills
  • Computer proficiency (Google Classroom or other LMS, Word, Excel, data entry, etc.)
  • Ability to work as a member of the program team in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to the mission and students of LSW

Compensation and Hours: This is a part-time, 15-20 hour/week position with the possibility of more part-time work in the future.  The rate of pay is $25/hour.  The full weekly schedule is yet to be determined, but will include classes at LSW’s Silver Spring Neighborhood Center location (5460 N. 64th St.) Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 1pm.
