Mission: The Starfish Foundation is dedicated to supporting emotional healing and trauma recovery for veterans and civilians through transformative programs, including Healing Warrior Hearts retreats.

Position Title: Board Member

Term: Two-year renewable term

Summary of Role: Board Members provide strategic leadership, governance, and support to ensure the Starfish Foundation fulfills its mission, remains financially sound, and continues to grow in impact. Members serve as ambassadors for the organization, actively participating in decision-making, fundraising, and oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Governance & Oversight
    • Attend and actively participate in board meetings (typically monthly).
    • Review and approve annual budgets, major policies, and strategic plans.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Mission Support
    • Champion the foundation’s mission within your networks and the community.
    • Promote programs, events, and initiatives aligned with emotional healing and trauma recovery.
  • Fundraising & Development
    • Make an annual personal contribution to the foundation.
    • Help secure financial resources by leveraging your networks, attending events, and supporting fundraising campaigns.
    • Assist with donor stewardship and recognition.
  • Engagement & Advocacy
    • Participate in at least one board committee or task force.
    • Attend retreats, workshops, or other foundation-supported events when possible.
    • Advocate for veterans’ and civilians’ emotional health and healing in the community.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for the mission and vision of the Starfish Foundation.
  • Prior board or nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Willingness to contribute time, expertise, and financial support.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and work as part of a team.

Time Commitment:

  • 5-10 hours per month, including meetings, committee work, and engagement activities.
  • If volunteering to staff a weekend, 20-30 hours per retreat.
