About the Domes: The Milwaukee Domes provides a one-of-a-kind nature retreat that takes visitors across the globe in the course of an afternoon, all housed in the world’s most unusual and architecturally significant horticultural conservatory. Home to 2,000 plants from diverse climates, it is the world’s only beehive-shaped conservatory. The Domes represent a powerful tool for encouraging visitors to make environmentally sustainable choices within their own families. With shows and displays changing multiple times a year there’s always something new to explore at the Domes.
Position Overview: The Marketing Director is responsible for developing and executing the Milwaukee Domes Alliance’s strategic marketing plan to build visibility, increase revenue, and elevate public awareness of the Domes. The Marketing Director supervises one full-time staff member and leads all communications, media, and outreach efforts, working closely with all facets of the team including membership, education, fundraising, gift shop, and events, as well as community partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marketing Director will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of a data-informed strategic marketing plan that is aligned with the organizational goals of MDA.
- Manage day-to-day marketing efforts including graphic design and print, digital communications and outreach, promotions, advertising, and public relations.
- Ensure consistent messaging across platforms including website, social media, email, and local media.
- Develop marketing strategies to support revenue-generating areas such as gift shop, education, events, donor campaigns, and membership.
- Maintain and enhance the Milwaukee Domes Alliance brand through visually cohesive and mission-aligned design across all channels.
- Working closely with a team of consultants, develop and implement the strategy for effectively communicating about the Domes Reimagined project (Learn more: www.DomesReimagined.org).
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPI’s) to refine strategies and report on progress.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal Marketing Director will bring most of the following qualifications and skill sets:
- Minimum of five years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field; nonprofit experience and knowledge of Milwaukee’s cultural landscape strongly preferred.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to attend events, including some evening/weekend work.
- Technology fluency including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workplace; proficiency in social media and email marketing platforms (such as Constant Contact) and database management tools (preferably Salesforce).
- Passionate commitment to the mission, vision, and values of MDA.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field required.
Physical Demands: The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas of the facility. Ascending and descending of stairs (building that does not contain an elevator). Compensation: $70,000+ based on experience; up to $7,500 in healthcare premium reimbursement; flexible work hours; hybrid in-office and remote work arrangement. Three weeks paid time off plus holidays and sick time.
