Facilities Associate

Summary of Agency: The FOOD Pantry Serving Waukesha County is a non-profit agency which provides free food and other groceries to low-income registrants residing in Waukesha County. The FOOD Pantry is the largest direct service food center in Waukesha County. We strive to provide nutritious and high-quality food with friendly and accessible service. Our programs are primarily supported by volunteers, community food drives, and independent fundraisers.

Overview of Position: The Facilities Associate is a nonexempt, full-time position (approximately 30 hours per week) that helps maintain the building operations and equipment as well as collect/coordinate the collection of food for The FOOD Pantry. This is a physical position that involves continual lifting, lowering, and carrying packages that may weigh up to 50 lbs. The Facilities Associate must have excellent customer contact and driving skills. The Facilities Associate will be required to drive non-CDL delivery vehicles, operate fork trucks, and maneuver manual and powered pallet jacks. Qualified applicants must have a valid Wisconsin issued driver’s license.

Starting Wage: $19.00 – $20.00 per hour dependent on experience.

Benefits: Upon successful completion of 60-day introductory period health insurance is offered and includes HSA contribution. Life insurance, dental and vision insurance are also available. A 401(k) retirement plan is offered with organization match. Paid time off, up to 2 weeks annually, begins accruing upon hire. Paid holidays.

Schedule: Full-time (30 hours per week), Monday and Friday 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 AM-1:00 PM, and Saturday 8:00 AM-12:00PM

Essential Responsibilities: 

Vehicle Operations

  • Drive to locations in Waukesha County for food pickups, assist with loading the truck at the location of donation or purchase. Return and assist with unloading at The FOOD Pantry.
  • Coordinate volunteer drivers to fill daily vehicle routes.
  • Fill in for food pickup and delivery routes when scheduled volunteers are unable to do so.
  • Deliver groceries to individual clients and partner organizations.
  • Occasionally drive out of Waukesha County for larger and specialty food orders.
  • Ensure that The FOOD Pantry fleet of vehicles is maintained. Regularly cleaning and fueling vehicles, regularly checking sensors and alerts, and taking in for appropriate maintenance.
  • Driving refrigerated 24-foot non-CDL truck and transit vans.

Warehouse & Building Operations

  • Ensure weights and counts of food are properly recorded for inventory tracking.
  • Stocking food for client distributions.
  • Custodial support to maintain clean and orderly warehouse.
  • Setting up space and equipment for special events and group volunteer activities.
  • Operate other equipment to perform routine facility maintenance (i.e.; snow blower, electric pallet jack, forklift).

  • Establish and maintain good communication with staff, volunteers, clients, donors and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous work experience in field related to shipping or warehouse work is preferred.
  • Forklift driving experience.  Must pass OSHA Fork Truck Safety Certification.
  • Able to follow specific instructions and routines and work independently according to a specific schedule.
  • Able to perform physical labor involving maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good critical thinking: able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with staff, volunteers and clients in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Must successfully complete and pass all background checks.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for occasional special events and meetings.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Work location: open office workspace, daily movement between office, service space, and warehouse space.
  • Equipment used: computer, telephone, printer/copier, manual and power pallet lift, standing fork truck, and vehicles.
  • Reporting: reports to the Food Resource Manager.
