Wisconsin for Environmental Justice (W4EJ) Part-Time • 10–15 hours/week • Remote with Wisconsin-based priority
W4EJ is looking for a sharp, motivated Communications & Executive Support Intern who can grow into a permanent part-time role. This position supports high-impact environmental justice work in Wisconsin and blends executive assistance with social media strategy, digital communications, and campaign support.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Execution
- Support development of a 90-day media action plan tied to environmental justice priorities (e.g., holding fossil fuel companies accountable, supporting clean energy transitions).
- Help maintain a content calendar and messaging strategy that communicates W4EJ’s goals in accessible, relatable language.
- Assist in building relationships with environmental leaders, government staff, and nonprofit partners.
Social Media Management
- Set up, optimize, and support management of W4EJ’s accounts (Twitter/X, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube).
- Create and post engaging multimedia content (short videos, infographics, text posts, stories).
- Monitor comments and messages; help cultivate an active, supportive online community.
Content Creation & Media Relations
- Draft and edit content such as blog posts, social posts, press releases, white papers, and case studies.
- Assist with outreach to journalists, influencers, and media outlets.
- Help coordinate webinars, virtual town halls, and community engagement events.
Campaign Management
- Support targeted digital campaigns aimed at key audiences, including swing and conservative regions in Wisconsin.
- Track analytics (engagement, reach, heat maps) and contribute to strategy improvements.
- Assist with preparing reports and presentations for internal review.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Help coordinate outreach with groups such as League of Wisconsin Municipalities, Wisconsin Counties Association, and WI Local Government Climate Coalition.
- Support personalized outreach using tools like Synthesis.
- Research environmental justice strategies from other states and share best practices.
Additional Support
- Assist with press coordination and media events.
- Coordinate with national partners (CCI, Citizen Action, etc.) to align messaging and campaigns.
- Provide executive assistance to leadership as needed, including scheduling, communications, and follow-up tasks.
Ideal Candidate
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Organized, timely, and able to manage multiple tasks
- Comfortable creating basic graphics or video content
- Active on social media and aware of digital trends
- Passionate about environmental justice, community power, and government accountability
- Based in Wisconsin or with strong WI context knowledge (preferred)
Compensation
- Part-time internship, $30-35/hour depending on experience
- Potential to transition to a permanent part-time role after 90 days
