Repairing Together is a program of the Milwaukee Jewish Day School, that connects students from different cultural backgrounds in K-8 schools in the Milwaukee area through thematic social and environmental action programming. We partner with local schools to share and celebrate the cultural, racial and social diversity in our communities and to take action together for a better world.
We envision a journey for all students who participate in the Repairing Together program, beginning in kindergarten and growing through the years together with partner peers until they finish eighth grade. Students create lifelong relationships, challenge stereotypes, take action together, and develop a solid framework for empathetic leadership in today’s world.
Summary:
The Repairing Together Educator/Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program. They schedule programs across all four partner schools, reserve space and facilitators. They order buses, supplies and snacks in coordination with the MJDS finance department. They must work closely with all four schools and their administrators, teachers and support staff to coordinate schedules. They also help to develop and to teach program content.
The Educator/Coordinator communicates directly with teachers and administration about upcoming programs, specific cultural program content, schedules, transportation and any pertinent information ahead of the sessions.
The Educator/Coordinator is also responsible for the development and implementation of programs. They will generate ideas for sessions from K4-8th grade in conjunction with teachers and administration. They are also responsible for working with outside organizations and facilitators to develop programs and ensure they will meet Repairing Together standards. The Educator/Coordinator will provide support through each step of the process, from idea generation, to planning and implementation.
The Educator/Coordinator assists in the facilitation of sessions. This includes leading ice breaker activities and other various activities such as arts and crafts, physical games and read-alouds. They often begin and end sessions, welcoming the participants and facilitating reflection activities at the conclusion. They are also responsible for creating supplemental materials for programs, including slide shows, hand outs and worksheets.
The Educator/Coordinator guides and supports participating students in discussions about cultures, race, religion and traditions.
