Kids Win WI is seeking dynamic, passionate, and driven leaders to launch Kids Win Wisconsin’s family mobilizing and advocacy strategy within the Green Bay & Beloit communities. This exciting leadership opportunity places two new Family Mobilizers at the forefront of the Kids Win movement, as founding members of the family mobilizing team. In this role, the Green Bay & Beloit Family Mobilizers will build community awareness and urgency around the state’s current literacy crisis and motivate parents, community leaders, educators, and elected officials to come together in coalition and advocate for the advancement of policy and systems change that ensures every Wisconsin child has access to excellent instruction and resources.

Mobilizers at this launch stage will be primarily focused on recruiting and training parents and families in community mobilizing skills, drawing them into the movement and increasing parent voice, involvement, and presence in the education political landscape of their community.

The work of Kids Win Family Mobilizers will focus on advancing 4 key strategic levers: Awareness & Base-Building, Community Power & Leadership Development, Policy Campaigns, and Get Out the Vote Campaigns.

Mobilizers will implement grassroots community mobilizing tactics such as house meetings, listening sessions, community awareness workshops, one-on-one relational meetings, action meetings with public officials, voter registration events, large demonstrations of power, signature campaigns, public testimony, canvassing, social media advocacy, and leadership and skill development sessions, in order to develop teams of Local Ambassadors that will lead and participate in local and statewide campaigns to advance education equity and literacy in their city and beyond.

This position is primarily in-person, in the field, with some remote time each week for team meetings and planning. Occasional travel to Madison and Milwaukee for events, actions, and team gatherings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build the capacity of local parents & families to understand the State and local educational landscape, key decision makers, and power of community, through the PICO Organizing Cycle.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and retain local ambassadors across diverse schools & neighborhoods to lead grassroots campaigns that place parents at the table with their elected representatives and community leaders, as they advocate for the needs of their schools and communities
  • Complete one-on-one relational meetings every week (approximately 10-15) with current and future local ambassadors and other important stakeholders to maintain relationships and build mobilizing capacity.
  • Coach & train parents as a team and individually to develop their leadership and mobilizing skills
  • Work closely with the CEO and mobilizing team, remain informed on the local education politics landscape and develop coordinated grasstops – grassroots advocacy strategies. 
  • Foster relationships and develop champions with community-based organizations, faith leaders, elected officials, civic and community leaders that leads to elevating parent & community mobilizing. 
  • Partner with the mobilizing team to develop and run statewide policy campaigns and capital advocacy efforts, and support your local ambassadors to mobilize their own community’s participation.
  • Document the advocacy work of parents and families in your community to develop social media content that celebrates and grows your local movement.
  • Lead Get out the Vote campaigns to educate families on the importance of voting, register families to vote,  and mobilize families to the polls for local and federal elections.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • This position requires daily travel between community locations where various events and meetings with parents could be held. Valid Driver’s license and access to  vehicle required.
  • Familiarity with and proximity to either Beloit or Green Bay, WI
  • Strong presentation, public speaking, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to interact with and cultivate support among diverse stakeholders
  • A results-oriented, goal-driven, organized approach to work
  • Strong teamwork skills (communication, deadline commitment, meeting facilitation, timeliness)
  • Experience using Google Apps and a willingness to learn and implement new technology 
  • The desire to learn, openness to take on new challenge, and take ownership of the work
  • A sense of urgency and passion for social justice and equity in education
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends, as campaigns require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Verbal and written fluency in both Spanish and English strongly preferred.
  • 1+ year experience in community organizing, advocacy, education reform, or engagement in grassroots movements
  • Experience managing and/or leading community organizing campaigns and mobilizing support
  • Familiarity with the PICO Organizing Model
  • Familiarity with local and/or state politics, education politics & movements
  • Capacity to think strategically and critically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues affecting a community
  • A bachelor’s degree in education, public policy, political science, sociology or related field

Compensation

Salary range: $40,000 – $45,000

Benefits: Health insurance available upon hire; paid vacation available after six months of employment.
