Job Title: Operations and Development Assistant
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Purpose: This position is responsible for ensuring that all administrative functions and policies are effectively carried out to ensure smooth daily operations and fiscal security of the organization.
Schedule and Compensation: Full-time, exempt. Salaried at $45,000 with benefits package that includes health, vision and dental. Generous paid time off and holiday hours and flexible scheduling with ability to occasionally telecommute. General office hours are Mon-Fri, 9-5, with some evening and weekend hours for special events and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations
- Under the supervision of the Executive Director, perform the weekly accounting activities for the organization and monthly payroll;
- Support, set up, and troubleshoot office technology and computer systems including telephones, security cameras, printers, laptops/computers, and digital platforms;
- Ensure building maintenance and renovation projects proceed smoothly;
- Maintain VGI’s digital and physical files;
- Regularly update VGI’s website and troubleshoot website issues;
- Stock and maintain general office supplies;
- Provide high level management of organizational outreach and social media strategies
- Serve as a support staff person for VGI’s programs by filling in for major events and programs as needed such as the Blitz, large volunteer shifts, etc.;
Development
- Assist with grant proposals to maintain a healthy grant pipeline;
- Ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders;
- Cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders and supporters, especially individual donors;
- Submit payroll and credit card expense reports monthly
- Prepare monthly reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors;
Outreach Coordination:
- Serves as primary point of contact for Victory Garden Initiative programs, volunteers, and events
- Ensures adequate marketing of all programs and events
- Speaks on behalf of VGI to community groups, classrooms, etc
- Develops partnerships with community organizations and government agencies
- Develop and implement strategy to engage diverse program participants
- Work with the Executive Director and Program Staff to develop and implement program evaluation plans;

The ideal candidate will have evident competence in the following skill-sets:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to persuasively communicate the complex social, environmental, political, and institutional issues that affect the food system;
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people;
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve information systems issues;
- Experience with budgeting, payroll, and bookkeeping;
- Exceptional attention to detail;
- Adaptable and innovative, with the ability to think quickly and creatively;
- Organized and goal-oriented with an ability to prioritize important tasks;
