Job Title: Custodial & Maintenance Technician (Part-Time) About Plymouth Church

Job Summary

The Custodial & Maintenance Technician serves as the hands-on steward of our church building, balancing daily environmental cleanliness with proactive physical upkeep. This hybrid position bridges the gap between standard cleaning and light property management, ensuring our facility remains safe, functional, clean, and warmly prepared for daily operations, weekly worship, and community events.

Position Details

  • Status: Part-Time (20 hours per week)

  • Compensation: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour (depending on experience)

  • Weekly Schedule:

    • Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

    • Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

    • Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

    • Sunday: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM

    • Note: Weekday hours include a built-in, unpaid 30-minute break.

Core Responsibilities1. Custodial & Hospitality (Approx. 60% of Time)

  • Welcoming Environment: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors in the sanctuary, common areas, hallways, offices, and restrooms so they are always ready for visitors.

  • Sanitization: Disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly to ensure a healthy space for our congregation, staff, and community partners.

  • Waste Management: Collect and empty trash and recycling throughout the building, safely transporting waste to exterior bins.

  • Sunday Hospitality & Reset: Ensure the facility is pristine and welcoming for Sunday morning services and fellowship, and properly reset spaces afterward for the upcoming week.

  • Supply Tracking: Keep restrooms fully stocked and monitor cleaning supply inventories.

2. Light Facility Maintenance (Approx. 40% of Time)

  • Proactive Upkeep: Independently tackle minor building repairs before they become costly operations, preserving the integrity of our facility.

  • Minor Plumbing & Repairs: Clear minor drain clogs, monitor for leaks, repair minor drywall damage, and tighten loose fixtures, hardware, or pews.

  • Cosmetic Touch-Ups: Perform interior touch-up painting and basic maintenance of building surfaces.

  • Safety Coordination: Monitor the building for hazards, replace lightbulbs and air filters, keep emergency paths clear, and assist with light, seasonal entrance upkeep (such as salting entryways or clearing stray debris).

  • Value-Aligned: You are comfortable working in and supporting an explicitly progressive, inclusive, and LGBTQIA+ affirming church environment.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • 1–2 years of experience in commercial cleaning, building custodial work, or property maintenance.

  • Handy with basic tools; comfortable safely using hand tools and small power tools for routine minor repairs.

  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly during shifts.

  • Absolute dependability for the specific weekly hours, especially Sunday mornings when our building is most active.
