Job Summary
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about joining a small, collaborative, and guest-focused team as the next leader of our volunteer program. Responsibilities include ongoing recruitment, engagement, retention, recognition, and development of volunteer opportunities and roles.
Additional responsibilities include stewardship of current and past volunteers, coordination of volunteer and community engagement activities, support for internal communications, and assistance with select Guest Services operations as needed.

Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Leadership
- Research, develop, and implement creative and innovative ways to recruit and engage volunteer candidates to serve as front desk volunteers, prepare meals for guests, provide pet therapy services, and fulfill other needs necessary to safely and successfully operate our facility
- Select, orient, train, schedule, assign, coordinate, supervise, and appropriately recognize volunteers.
- Ensure a sufficient number of volunteers are available to meet the diverse hospitality, project-based, and event-related needs of Kathy’s House.
- Develop and maintain a volunteer database and performance evaluation system for volunteers and the volunteer program. Maintain appropriate records of volunteer functions and hours for timely statistical reporting.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan to steward and recognize volunteers on a regular basis. This plan will include, but is not limited to, writing timely personal acknowledgment letters and thank-you cards; recognizing birthdays, anniversaries, and other special life events; and coordinating the annual volunteer appreciation event.
- Establish clear roles, expectations and workflows for volunteers.
Communications & Community Engagement
- Create and execute community outreach initiatives to support volunteer recruitment.
- Support volunteer and community engagement communications including newsletters, social media content, volunteer recognition, and annual report storytelling.
- Create and distribute the monthly volunteer newsletter through Constant Contact, highlighting volunteer opportunities, impact stories, recognition, and organizational updates.
Guest Services Support
- As part of the Guest Services team, assist with daily and ongoing duties such as guest intake, house tours, and serving as the first-line backup as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned while effectively managing workload and demonstrating the ability to focus on established priorities.
Qualifications
- Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- A valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Kathy’s House is a hospital guest house located footsteps from Froedtert Hospital on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus. Since 2001, we have served families traveling to Milwaukee for medical care, offering much more than lodging to those who find a “home away from home” at Kathy’s House.
Kathy’s House proudly serves as a national model in the hospital guest housing sector, providing affordable lodging and caring support to approximately 1,500 families per year in a beautiful facility intentionally designed to address patient and caregiver wellness.
