Job Description:

This is a full-time position responsible for overseeing one of the five regions of the statewide Alliance for Wisconsin Youth. Community Advocates serves as the Regional Prevention Center (RPC) for the Southeast Region of the Alliance which is comprised of the following: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, Ozaukee, and Washington Counties. This position includes regular communication and technical assistance with member coalitions, organizing local and regional trainings, recruitment of new coalitions, along with attending regular meetings with the other RPCs across the state, and reporting activities to the State of Wisconsin.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and creativity in the planning, implementation, management and evaluation of the AWY multi-year action plans, focused on data-driven environmental strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with AWY member coalitions through email communications, telephone conversations, and in-person/virtual meetings.
    • This includes maintaining the monthly regional newsletter and providing relevant information for the biweekly Community Advocates Prevention Journal.
  • Plan and facilitate SE AWY quarterly regional meetings – including inviting guest speakers and program representatives, issuing a meeting agenda, and sharing meeting minutes following each meeting.
  • Actively seek ways for AWY member coalitions to work collaboratively across the region through projects, workgroups, and learning opportunities. .
  • Stay abreast of emerging and on-going best prevention practices, funding announcements/opportunities, and relevant prevention topics by attending conferences, trainings, workshops, and following updates from relevant partners in order to share with AWY membership base.
  • Actively support the capacity of AWY member coalitions by providing on-going technical assistance, training, and/coaching while conducting outreach to recruit potential new members.
    • This includes planning, hosting, and/or contracting for trainings, webinars, or workshops base on membership requests and feedback
  • Responsible for managing the annual AWY mini-grant process that is available for AWY members. This includes the updating, issuing, collection, review, and approval of the application.
  • Responsible for all data collection and reporting on AWY sub-granting. Data and activities will be collected from all participating counties, and regional activities to be reported into State and Federal database systems.
  • Actively participate in all AWY related meetings with other Regional Prevention Centers, SCAODA Prevention Committee, Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project, Wisconsin Poison Center, and the State Commercial Tobacco Prevention and Treatment Program.
  • Coordinate the State Opioid Response subcontracting process with member coalitions annually, including development and dissemination of the request for applications, review of applications, allocation of funding, and drafting of contracts.
  • Serve as a trusted prevention resource for partners across the SE region by providing evidence-based education and convening nontraditional partners for community-level change.
  • Build relationships with member coalition coordinators and statewide partners to uplift the collective capacity of the prevention workforce across Wisconsin.
  • Manage multiple cross-collaborative initiatives with competing timelines and priorities simultaneously.
  • Identify opportunities to align coalitions and partners more closely with best practice as outlined in SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.
  • Develop an annual needs assessment to gather insights related to member coalitions’ context and create a regional training and technical assistance plan.
  • Deliver the 3-day Wisconsin Substance Use Prevention Skills Training for prevention partners annually.
  • Create and deliver and/or contract with relevant trainers to support the development of member coalitions’ knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Monitor emerging drug trends and evolving best practice guidance to identify relevant resources and messaging tools for coalitions.
  • Attend all Public Policy Institute staff meetings, Prevention Team meetings and one-on-one sessions with Training and Technical Assistance Manager.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook necessary
    • Experience with collaborative meeting tools a plus
  • Experience in community outreach and relationship building
  • Experience leading work groups
  • Experience with conflict transformation
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Excellent record keeping and reporting skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of learning styles and teaching/coaching abilities a plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of written or verbal information
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Experience with grant writing, and maintaining budgets a plus
    • Experience with coalition work, public health, or community organizing preferred
    • Valid driver’s license and insurance with the ability to drive and transport materials to various sites as needed

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $42,000 to $50,000 annually.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, and generous paid time off.
