Position Summary:
Join our dedicated team through AmeriCorps as our new Rural Health Navigator and make a meaningful difference in underserved communities! In this vital role, you will serve as a bridge to essential health services, providing outreach, education, and support to individuals facing barriers to healthcare access. Your energetic and compassionate approach will empower community members to improve their health outcomes, navigate complex health systems, and connect with resources that foster wellness and resilience. This paid position offers a bi-weekly allowance of $857.69 (gross) through AmeriCorps and a unique opportunity to develop your skills in public health, community engagement, and program development while contributing to the well-being of rural populations.
Position Responsibilities and Essential Function
- Identify communities experiencing gaps in food access and community resources.
- Conduct community assessments and meet with local leaders, residents, and organizations to better understand community needs.
- Develop and launch new pop-up pantry programs in communities in need of food access.
- Recruit community host sites, volunteers, and local partners to support new food distributions.
- Build relationships with schools, healthcare providers, faith communities, local governments, and nonprofit organizations to strengthen community support systems.
- Help communities explore long-term food access solutions, including permanent food pantries or locally led food programs.
- Connect community leaders with additional resources that support health, wellness, and quality of life.
- Track program outcomes and help evaluate community impact.
Qualifications:
- Passionate about serving communities and improving food access.
- A strong communicator who enjoys meeting new people and building relationships.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with community partners.
- Organized, adaptable, and willing to travel throughout Feed My People’s 14 county area
- Interested in community development, nonprofit leadership, human services, or related fields.
- Excited to create something new and help communities build lasting solutions.
Preferred Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree (or current enrollment) in public health, social work, nonprofit management, community development, human services, nutrition, sociology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience volunteering, leading community projects, or working with nonprofit organizations is helpful but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and groups, facilitate collaboration, and engage community members in developing local solutions.
