Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is hiring a dependable and detail-oriented Warehouse Assistant – Receiving to support inbound product and receiving operations at our Milwaukee distribution center.

In this role, you will help ensure incoming food and other essential products are received accurately, inspected for quality, entered into our inventory system, labeled, scanned, and placed in the correct warehouse locations.

This is a hands-on position that combines physical warehouse work with strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy. You will work closely with drivers, warehouse team members, donors, and other departments to help keep products moving safely and efficiently from the time they arrive at our facility.

What You Will Do

  • Receive incoming food, donations, purchased products, and other materials delivered to the Milwaukee facility.
  • Unload trucks safely and efficiently using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Verify incoming products against receiving documentation, manifests, bills of lading, and other records.
  • Weigh, count, and inspect incoming products to ensure accurate receiving and inventory records.
  • Scan and enter received products into the inventory system according to established procedures.
  • Ensure products are accurately labeled, identified, and assigned to the correct warehouse locations.
  • Inspect incoming food and products for quality, freshness, damage, temperature, food safety, and overall suitability.
  • Communicate product discrepancies, damages, quality concerns, or receiving issues to the appropriate team members.
  • Move received products from the receiving area to appropriate storage, cooler, freezer, staging, or distribution locations.
  • Maintain an organized receiving area and ensure products are processed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation of receiving or inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate cooler and freezer temperature records and support proper product storage conditions.
  • Coordinate with drivers, warehouse team members, donors, programs, and other departments to support efficient receiving operations.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment after completing required training and certification.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized receiving docks, warehouse areas, coolers, and freezers.
  • Follow all food safety, warehouse safety, OSHA, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support order fulfillment, product movement, inventory activities, and other warehouse functions as operational needs require.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with drivers, warehouse team members, donors, and other departments.
  • Positive, team-oriented approach with a willingness to solve problems and support changing operational needs.
  • Ability to work safely and follow established food safety and warehouse procedures.
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification within two weeks of hire.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Six months or more of warehouse, receiving, distribution, shipping, grocery, manufacturing, or similar experience.
  • Previous experience in a receiving or inbound warehouse role.
  • Experience with data entry, inventory systems, scanners, or warehouse management systems.
  • Previous forklift, pallet jack, or other material-handling equipment experience.
  • Experience reviewing receiving documentation, inventory counts, or product discrepancies.

Physical and Working Conditions

This is an active warehouse, receiving, and material-handling position. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, reach, kneel, squat, sit, and use their hands to handle equipment and products.

The employee must be able to:

  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Safely load, unload, and move products
  • Enter and exit trailers and receiving areas as needed
  • Safely  operate material-handling equipment after completing required training
  • Work in warehouse, refrigerated, and freezer environments, including temperatures as low as approximately -10 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Work in environments with moderate to high noise levels
  • Wear closed-toed shoes and appropriate protective or cold-weather clothing
