Waukesha Free Clinic is seeking engaged, community-minded leaders to join our Board of Directors in 2027. For nearly 50 years, WFC has provided completely free healthcare to uninsured, underinsured, and low-income individuals in Waukesha County. Our Board plays an important role in helping ensure that this mission remains strong, responsive, and sustainable for the future. This is an opportunity to contribute your experience, perspective, and leadership to a mission that matters right here in your own backyard.
What Board Service Looks Like
Board Directors serve a three-year term and are expected to actively participate in the governance and advancement of the organization. Commitments include:
- Six full Board meetings each year
- Participation on at least one Board committee
- Committee meetings held quarterly or more frequently as needed
- Preparation for meetings and thoughtful participation in discussion and decision-making
- Support for WFC’s mission through advocacy, community connections, fundraising, and organizational stewardship
- Contribute to the success of the clinic in a financial way that is meaningful to you (no minimum annual donation requirements)
Most Board and committee meetings offer a virtual attendance option through Microsoft Teams, making participation more accessible for busy professionals.
2027 Committee Opportunities
WFC is particularly seeking new Directors interested in contributing to:
Finance Committee: Helps oversee financial performance, budgeting, financial policies, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
Governance Committee: Supports Board recruitment, development, policies, assessments, and strong nonprofit governance practices.
Fund Development Committee: Helps strengthen donor engagement, fundraising strategy, community partnerships, and special events—including WFC’s upcoming 50th anniversary.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome individuals from a variety of professional and personal backgrounds. Prior nonprofit Board experience is helpful but not required.
Strong candidates will:
- Care deeply about the health and well-being of the Waukesha County community
- Be willing to actively participate, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute their expertise
- Bring a collaborative and community-focused mindset
- Have a meaningful connection to Waukesha County through living, working, or previous experience in the community
Experience in finance, accounting, banking, business, governance, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, marketing, community engagement, healthcare, law, or related areas may be especially valuable, but we are equally interested in individuals who bring new perspectives and a genuine commitment to WFC’s mission.
