Development Director

Position Summary

The Development Director serves as the organization’s chief fundraising professional and strategic advisor on philanthropy.  This newly created position offers the opportunity to design, implement, and grow a comprehensive development program from the ground up.

The successful candidate will possess both strategic vision and hands-on execution skills, thriving in an environment where creativity, initiative, and relationship-building are highly valued.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Development Leadership

• Design and implement Family Sharing’s first comprehensive fundraising plan.
• Establish annual fundraising goals and performance metrics.
• Analyze and create systems for donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition.
• Develop fundraising policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Incorporate Planned Giving strategies.
• Build out a donor experience program.

Annual Giving

• Plan and execute annual fundraising campaigns.
• Increase donor acquisition, retention, and recurring giving.
• Develop direct mail, email, digital, and social fundraising strategies.
• Manage donor acknowledgements and stewardship communications
• Coordinate volunteer fundraising committees.

Major Gifts ($2,500+)

• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects.
• Building meaningful relationships with individual donors.
• Prepare personalized solicitation strategies and proposals.
• Coordinate donor meetings with Family Sharing leadership and board members.

Foundation and Corporate Giving

• Research grant opportunities.
• Collaborate with grant writer to include research and reports.
• Cultivate corporate sponsorships and partnerships with the Community Engagement Manager.
• Develop matching gift opportunities and explore Planned Giving strategies.

Board and Volunteer Engagement

• Partner with the Executive Director and the Board Fundraising and Development Committees.
• Train and support board members in fundraising activities.
• Help create a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

Communications

• Collaborate with Community Outreach Manager to tell Family Sharing’s story through compelling donor communications.
• Share impact stories demonstrating how gifts change lives.
• Help strengthen Family Sharing’s visibility throughout Ozaukee County.

Data and Reporting

• Assess viability of current donor database software.
• Maintain donor database integrity.
• Track fundraising performance and key metrics.
• Prepare reports for the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Minimum 5 years of nonprofit fundraising or related development experience.
• Proven success securing major gifts.
• Experience with annual giving campaigns.
• Experience with capital campaigns a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
• Proficiency with donor management software and Microsoft Office.
• Preferred qualifications include grant writing experience, event fundraising, and knowledge of the Ozaukee County philanthropic community.
