Founded in 1978, the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) is a non-profit organization that brings together multiple independent disciplines – from nursing, psychology, and medicine to public health – to provide new perspectives and progress on human behavior, health, and illness. SBM is the leading forum for more than 2,400 behavioral and biomedical researchers and clinicians to study the interactions and relationships between behavioral, physiological, and biochemical states, and morbidity and mortality. The many disciplines we represent (and all our members) are part of an exclusive interactive network for education and collaboration on common research – as well as having access to dialogue and exchange on the latest clinical and public policy concerns regarding prevention, diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation, and health promotion.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Responsible for implementing elements of the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s communications plans, including general promotions, social media, and public education.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
- Assist Executive Director and Senior Communications Manager with marketing and communication plans that help SBM achieve its mission and advance its strategic directions. Duties to include:
- Use of email campaign software, social media, and other means to promote SBM membership, event attendance, use of website resources, and other engagement with the Society in a highly tailored way.
- Use of email campaign software, social media, and other means to promote SBM journal articles and members’ research.
- Monitor SBM’s social media accounts as needed (e.g. Bluesky, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- Post relevant content to SBM’s social media accounts as directed.
- Monitor SBM’s website and update content as needed.
- Track social media and other miscellaneous usage data as directed, as well as perform a yearly social audit.
- Coordinate submission of Outlook member newsletter articles, manage timeline, solicit editor input, and publish issues (4x per year, online-only).
- Coordinate and publish Healthy Living article submissions on the SBM website and promote on socials (2x per month). Manage Healthy Living annual editorial calendar. Monitor Healthy Living pageviews, SEO, and other metrics.
- Serve as liaison to various SBM councils and committees including but not restricted to 1) Public Education Committee.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills include; strong writing, active listening abilities, along with digital marketing proficiency (including SEO, Zero Click and social media strategy), content creation, and leadership.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications-related field preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently and on a team. Ability to prioritize varied assignments and handle multiple tasks. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, website browsers, and databases is required. Familiarity with website content management systems, social media platforms, email marketing software, and graphic design software is a plus.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
One to two weeks per year; very limited evening and weekend work may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional lifting of 20-30 pounds of boxed publications or materials.
