Job Title: Communications and Development Manager
Reports to: Executive Director (Founder and CEO)
Type: Full Time, Exempt
Location: Milwaukee, WI (Hybrid)
About 4th Dimension Sobriety
4th Dimension Sobriety is a growing recovery organization based in Milwaukee. We help people rebuild their lives after addiction through sober living, community programming, and creative healing experiences. Our work blends structure, spirituality, and second chances. Whether it is helping someone find stable housing or leading a mural project with residents in early sobriety, we bring grit, grace, and honesty to everything we do.
About the Role
We are hiring a Communications and Development Manager to lead the messaging, relationship management, and operational systems that support our mission. This is a leadership role for someone who knows how to shape a consistent public voice, move confidently within Milwaukee’s philanthropic landscape, and keep donor and community engagement efforts running smoothly and intentionally.
You will oversee external communications, manage donor communications and CRM systems, support development operations, and coordinate messaging across programs and events. You will work closely with the Executive Director to steward funder relationships, strengthen internal systems, and ensure the mission of 4D is clearly and consistently shared.
This is a dynamic position that blends storytelling, strategy, and execution and is ideal for someone who brings both big picture thinking and strong follow through.
Key Responsibilities
Communications and Storytelling
This is the voice and heartbeat of our mission. You will craft and share the real stories behind the work, whether it is highlighting a recovery milestone, recapping a community event, or sending a newsletter that actually gets read. The goal is to keep our message consistent, compelling, and rooted in the truth of what happens here every day.
- Lead 4D’s public voice across digital, print, and media platforms
- Create and manage content for newsletters, social media, campaigns, and our website
- Craft donor-facing communications, fundraising appeals, and impact stories
- Document our programs through writing, interviews, photography, and video
- Coordinate media outreach and elevate 4D’s public presence across sectors
Development and Donor Engagement
This is about building real relationships and making sure our supporters feel connected to the mission. You will manage the behind the scenes systems that keep donor communications flowing, including CRM tracking, thank you letters, meeting prep, and more. It is thoughtful, strategic work that helps people feel like they are part of something real, not just writing a check.
- Manage and maintain donor CRM systems, tracking, and gift processing
- Coordinate all donor acknowledgments, thank you letters, and regular updates
- Prepare materials and follow ups for donor meetings, tours, and presentations
- Help steward relationships with funders and institutional partners
- Collaborate on grants and reporting in coordination with consultants or internal team members
Community Engagement and Events
This is where mission meets the public. You will help shape how we show up in the world through events, partnerships, and outreach that reflect our values and expand our reach. Whether it is coordinating photos, drafting invitations, or representing 4D at a gathering, this work is about connection and credibility.
- Support event planning, promotion, and media coverage for public facing initiatives
- Represent 4D at select events and meetings to deepen community relationships
- Create messaging that educates, inspires, and reduces stigma around recovery
- Build partnerships with creatives, local advocates, and mission aligned collaborators
Who You Are
- A mid to senior level nonprofit professional with strong experience in communications and development
- Strategic and organized, with the ability to manage details while keeping sight of the bigger picture
- Comfortable working with funders, creatives, media, and community partners
- Skilled in storytelling, brand voice, donor strategy, and content development
- Familiar with Milwaukee’s nonprofit and philanthropic ecosystem
- Experienced with CRM systems, digital tools, and collaborative workflows
- Grounded, thoughtful, and confident in recovery centered or trauma informed spaces
Qualifications
5 to 10 years of experience in nonprofit communications, fundraising, or related leadership roles
- Proven success managing donor communications and engagement systems
- Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal skills
- Background in grants, campaigns, or mission driven storytelling is a plus
- Alignment with 4D’s values and mission. Personal recovery experience is welcomed but not required
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: 60000 annually
- Health insurance stipend: 5000 annually
- Flexible schedule with hybrid work options
- Opportunity to help shape the future of a fast growing, creative, mission centered organization
