The Food Pantry and Commercial Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of BVCC’s Food Pantry and Commercial Kitchen. This role involves managing and scheduling volunteers for the pantry and renters for the kitchen, coordinating food and supply orders, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining accurate data, and fostering a welcoming environment for community members and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
Food Pantry Management
- Operations Coordination: Oversee the food pantry distribution schedule to ensure smooth operations three days a week with volunteer support—Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-6 pm, and Fridays from 1-4 pm.
- Orders & Deliveries: Place and manage orders with Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee Diaper Mission, and other partners.
- Reporting & Compliance: Submit monthly TEFAP reports, ensure annual certification with Hunger Task Force, and track participant data for United Way and other stakeholders.
- Data Management: Collect and accurately enter participant data for program reporting to meet stakeholder requirements.
- Actively recruit and coordinate with our community partners to have food drives for the food pantry.
Volunteer Coordination, Orientation & Training
- Volunteer Scheduling: Coordinate and supervise volunteers for both food pantry and kitchen operations, as well as other BVCC programs like garden maintenance.
- Orientation, perform background checks & Training: Conduct regular orientations for new volunteers and provide ongoing training for effective role performance.
- Event Volunteer Management: Organize volunteer support for seasonal events, including the Holiday Toy & Gift program, Coat Drive, and other community initiatives.
- Volunteer Progress Monitoring: Assess volunteer performance, offering feedback and support as needed.
Commercial Kitchen Oversight
- Kitchen Operations: Supervise the operations of the commercial kitchen, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Renter Coordination: Manage schedules for kitchen renters, ensure grant compliance, and oversee rental agreements.
- Recruitment of Renters: Actively recruit new renters to expand the kitchen’s usage, promoting community access and revenue growth for BVCC.
Facility & Event Setup
- Room Setup: Oversee the setup for pantry distributions, volunteer training sessions, and events, ensuring that all necessary equipment and seating arrangements are properly coordinated.
- Seasonal Events: Assist and promote volunteer opportunities for seasonal events like Farmers Market days and other community-focused activities.
Additional Duties
- Donation Coordination: Manage weekly donation pickups from partners such as Costco to meet BVCC’s operational needs.
- Mission Promotion: Participate in BVCC training to stay aligned with mission and values, actively promoting the center’s goals to volunteers and community members.
- Miscellaneous Support: Support the Operations Manager as needed to ensure the overall efficiency of BVCC’s programs.
Qualifications
- Language Proficiency: Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- Experience: Background in building compliance, nonprofit operations, or related field, with experience managing volunteers.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, and data management systems.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Personal Attributes: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to represent BVCC professionally, maintain confidentiality, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift/move up to 50 lbs as necessary.
Working Conditions
- Occasional evening or weekend hours are required for events.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight, and as part of a cohesive team.
Hours
- 20-24 hours/week
Compensation
- $20-$23/hour
