About BVCC

The Bay View Community Center is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to strengthening families in the Bay View and surrounding southside Milwaukee communities. We foster diversity, equity, and inclusion while promoting family well-being, economic mobility, and educational success. 

Role Overview

We are seeking passionate, engaged community leaders to join our Board of Directors. Board members serve as strategic advisors and active ambassadors, providing governance, financial oversight, and community advocacy to advance BVCC’s mission. 

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Strategic Oversight

  • Support and advocate for BVCC’s mission to strengthen families and individuals in our community 
  • Provide input on strategic planning and organizational direction 
  • Review and approve organizational policies and programs 
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance 

Financial Stewardship

  • Oversee annual budgets and financial reports 
  • Participate in fundraising initiatives and campaign strategies 
  • Support efforts to diversify funding streams for long-term sustainability 

Committee Service

Serve on at least one Board committee aligned with your expertise, such as: 

  • Governance, Personnel, and Nominating
  • Finance & Budget
  • Investment, Endowment, and Corporate Fundraising
  • Special Events

Active Engagement (“Give and Get” Directive)

  • Board members must fulfill charitable, volunteer, and meeting commitments
  • Board meetings are held monthly. Committee meetings held at least every-other month.

Ideal Candidate

  • Passionate about strengthening families and community development
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to nonprofit governance
  • Willing to invest time, expertise, and potentially financial resources
  • Comfortable with personal fundraising and/or community outreach
  • 3-year term commitment with potential for re-election 
  • Ability to exercise careful judgment in organizational decisions 
  • NOTE: we are specifically in need of attorneys and CPAs to support our current efforts
