Position Summary:
The Custodian and Maintenance Coordinator at Betty Brinn Children’s Museum plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff. This position is responsible for the daily cleaning, daily to the highest standards, creating a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff. This role includes supervising the part-time custodial team, performing deep cleaning of exhibits and spaces, and managing supply inventory.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Custodial & Cleaning Duties (70%)
- Ensure all Museum spaces, including exhibits, restrooms, offices, and public areas, are cleaned and maintained daily.
- Perform deep cleaning of exhibits and high-traffic areas to uphold safety and hygiene standards.
- Respond promptly and take the lead on cleaning incidents involving bodily fluids (e.g., urine, feces, vomit) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Regularly clean and sanitize museum props, play areas, and high-touch surfaces to prevent the spread of germs.
- Supervise and coordinate the part-time custodial team, assigning tasks and ensuring quality control.
- Monitor, manage, and restock cleaning and maintenance supply inventory, placing orders as needed.
- Maintain cleaning schedules and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintenance Duties (30%)
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on Museum exhibits, fixtures, and facilities to ensure a safe and functional environment.
- Assist with painting, patching walls, and general upkeep of Museum spaces.
- Conduct minor plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures as needed.
- Assist with basic carpentry tasks such as assembling, adjusting, or repairing furniture.
- Work with the exhibits team to identify maintenance issues and coordinate with external vendors for larger repair needs.
- Support event setup and breakdown, including moving furniture, assembling temporary structures, and ensuring all spaces are in good condition.
- Conduct routine inspections of the facility and exhibits to proactively identify potential maintenance concerns.
- Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on cleaning equipment to ensure functionality.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in commercial cleaning with a proven track record of providing excellent service.
- 2+ years of leadership experience in managing team members
- Must be able to move up to 50 lbs
- Requires standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings or evenings as needed.
