Location: COA’s Goldin Center (2320 West Burleigh Street) and in the community

Driver Status: COA vehicles (requires acceptable driving record and valid drivers license), Personal Vehicle  (requires proof of insurance)

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Summary

This NEW position requires a dynamic individual who will be responsible for supporting all activities directly connected to the three primary community-serving programs that are based within the Goldin Center: Gill Family Resource Center (food pantry), Teen Program, and Community Outreach. This position includes a mix of administrative and program duties. This position requires flexibility of schedule as it includes some evening and weekend work. This is a full-time, year-round position that is eligible for benefits.

Main Job Responsibilities

Program Support: Gill Family Resource Center (40% of time)

  • Support food pantry and diaper bank during service hours.
  • Provide dignified customer support to guests while also maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
  • Assist with completing reports and collecting data, and servicing guests.
  • Drive COA vehicle to pick up donations, as needed.
  • Receive and inventory dropped off donations, as needed.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of community engagement events including but not limited to Safe Summer Kick Off and Beyond the Book Bag.

Program Support: Teen Program (40% of time)

  • Implement quality program activities that are inclusive, welcoming, respectful and responsive to the diversity of participants, families and community.
  • Provide direct supervision to ensure safety and appropriate engagement.
  • Be a liaison and support to vendors and community partners.

Program Support: Community Engagement (20% of time)

  • Remain current with community resources in order to provide support, guidance, resources, and referrals to families.

Other

  • Support effective, accurate, and timely data collection reflecting all program activities, attendance, and participation. Submit program data for reports while maintaining confidentiality and dignity of guests and program participants.

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Experience

  • An Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred or a combination of education/experience
  • Experience and enjoyment working with community at large
  • Community organizing experience a plus
  • Must be computer literate: able to use Word to create, edit and format documents and flyers as well as Excel to enter in and manipulate data
  • Must be at least 25 years old with a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

  • Strong youth and family management skills; familiarity with Social Emotional Learning and trauma informed care. Belief in positive child guidance and strength based family guidance and/or interaction.
  • Very good organizational and administrative skills; detail oriented.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships.
  • Must be a self-starter, take initiative, and be able to work independently as well as follow directions very accurately.
  • Patience, positive attitude, and cultural competency.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

The physical requirements are:

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to engage physically with participants (e.g., run, play, etc.)
  • Ability to lift/move 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to push, pull and carry using arms and legs

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to touch, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is an active environment with urban youth and families in a variety of settings. This requires the ability to respond quickly to changing situations and be able to move around the COA site as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position also requires occasional evening and weekend work.
