Location: This position is based out of our Goldin Center (2320 West Burleigh Street, Milwaukee) and requires an individual that is representative of residents within the 53206 zip code.

NOTE: Do to the home-based nature of the program, access to reliable transportation is absolutely required. Mileage is payable upon fulfilling the requirements of COA’s Approved Driver Policy.
Summary
The Parent Partner delivers the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program. This is a full-time, year-round position eligible for benefits. The schedule is somewhat flexible and may include evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the families and the program.
The HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) Program is accredited by HIPPY International. It teaches parents/guardians to be their child’s first teacher. COA is the only organization in the state of Wisconsin that offers the HIPPY Program.
Main Job Responsibilities
Goal: Successfully implement curriculum with families, engage families through events, and refer to community resources as needed.
- Build and maintain a full roster of 18 families residing within the 53206 zip code.
- Implement curriculum through weekly in-person visits either in-home or at COA’s Goldin Center (2320 West Burleigh Street). Occasional virtual visits and phone calls are allowed to accommodate family schedules and needs or inclement weather, but should be extremely rare. Visits include role-playing the week’s curriculum, reminders about upcoming program events, and referrals to community resources – all while integrating COA philosophy and goals.
- Deliver questionnaires, parent/child assessments, and surveys to parents/guardians, as required.
- Complete and submit all reports and other documentation in a timely manner and as required by COA. Maintain current and complete files and rosters.
- Actively participate in the mandatory Monday weekly staffing (onsite as COA’s Goldin Center from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and other trainings and professional development, as required.
- Inform the program’s leadership of child/family progress and family concerns as they arise. Provide referrals, when appropriate.
- Provide information and resources to HIPPY families regarding all COA and other community programs.
- Be active in outreach and coalition building within the community to nurture cross-referral relationships.
- Actively participate in and seek out recruitment and outreach opportunities.
- Be available to come into the office for support, supervision, and office time as needed or scheduled. (HIPPY is located in COA’s Goldin Center at 2320 West Burleigh Street.)
- Assist at each monthly Family Gathering Night and other special events including set up, event activities, and clean up.
Other
Role model appropriate behavior at all times. This includes developing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships with stakeholders: colleagues, participants, parents/guardians, facilitators, community partners, etc.
Build an effective working relationship with staff from other HIPPY sites and COA departments.
Attend professional development, meetings, conferences, etc.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Representative of families residing within the 53206 zip code
- Relevant direct service experience with children and families similar to those served by COA
- Current or previous participation in HIPPY preferred but not required
Skills/Competencies
- Ability and willingness to listen, learn and ask questions
- Flexibility and adaptability throughout the week as families cancel, reschedule, and/or no show
- Patience and empathy for families with children with special needs and developmental delays
- Philosophical compatibility with COA mission, programs, and service delivery
- Per HIPPY International: Ability to read, write, and speak well in the curriculum language they will use
- Effective interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships. Cultural competency. Respect for diversity of all types (geographical, economical, cultural, etc).
- Proficiency in standard office software, especially Excel, Google suite, video conferencing, etc.
- Good organizational and administrative skills
- Excellent time management skills for consistent attendance and punctuality
Must be at least 23 years old with a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record per COA insurers, and insurance with liability limits of at least $50K bodily injury liability per person, $100K for bodily injury liability per occurrence, and $50K for property damage liability per occurrence. Must have access to reliable transportation for home visits.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
The physical requirements are the ability:
- to sit and stand for long periods,
- to climb stairs,
- to walk some distance, and
- to carry at least 25 pounds
The work environment is mainly an office and home environment with time spent in program buildings which can be loud. It also includes doing home visits at various sites around Milwaukee County in all sorts of weather. This position also requires some evening and weekend work.
