Job Purpose & Summary:
Under the direction of the CFO, the Accountant provides general accounting duties in accordance with prescribed procedures and accounting practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management deems necessary.
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Community Advocates Financial Policies & Procedures.
- Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports as needed.
- Review payroll prior to bi-weekly submission.
- Prepare and enter month end allocations including client trust entries, space, admin, fringe benefits (Health/Life/Dental), property and liability, workers comp, postage reading.
- Prepare monthly invoices and record invoices in accounting software.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards statements, balance sheet monthly.
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepare, review and analyze monthly financial statements, transactions, questionnaires, computer reports and other financial documents including variable ad-hoc reports.
- Meet with managers to review their program budget vs actual financials.
- Assist with annual audit preparation including audit work schedules.
- Prepare Audit Accounts Receivable confirmations for government contracts.
- Complete audit confirmation requests from external auditors of our subcontractors.
- Prepare budget forecasts.
Skills & Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency using MS Office including intermediate level experience using MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Filters, Functions, etc.). Ability to manipulate, sort and summarize large data sets.
- High level of efficiency and accuracy.
- Experience with general ledger functions.
- Impeccable attention to detail and ability to analyze data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 2+ years of Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
- CPA certification a plus

Salary Range: $65,000 – $75,000 per year
