Position Title: Shelter Manager
Pay: Up to $75,000.00 per year
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Travel: 0-10%, Minimal Local Travel
Office Location: 3025 W Mitchell St. Milwaukee, WI 53215
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the emergency shelter by managing: the implementation of its policies and procedures, physical operations, consumers, staff, volunteers and students.
- Recruit, train, schedule and supervise personnel working in the agency’s Emergency Shelter, Second Stage, and Older Abused Women’s Program; in addition to any student interns or volunteers.
- Serve as a liaison between emergency shelter staff, Community Advocates, Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer and other individuals in the community. This includes participation in community meetings that focus on homelessness, domestic violence and other issues concerning consumers.
- Provide community education about domestic violence and MWCCA to professionals and at-risk populations.
- Monitor emergency shelter expenses in partnership with the Division Manager of Community Advocates, Inc.
- Conduct staff meetings with emergency shelter personnel and attend other MWCCA meetings as requested.
- Provide accurate and timely reports that are required by the agency, and various funding sources to the Development Department. This also includes providing quality assurance for the emergency shelter’s database, paperwork and consumer feedback.
- Provides the Development Director with data needed for proposal writing.
- Provide case management services to consumers residing in emergency shelter, and crisis counseling and information and referral to callers on the 24-hour crisis line.
- Serve as an agency representative to market and promote the program.
- Perform job duties on a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or other related field required.
- Knowledge about the cycle and dynamics of domestic abuse and its intersection with substance abuse, mental health and other co-occurring disorders.
- Case Management experience required.
- 1-2 years Prior Work Experience working in residential settings and working knowledge of community resources.
- Strong ability to work effectively with colleagues within the organization and in the community.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide services to clients with diverse social, ethnic, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds and sexual orientations.
- A working knowledge of the cycle of domestic violence and the impact on family, community and the individuals being provided services.
- Ability to work in diverse settings and provide culturally competent services.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
- Pre-employment drug screening and background check required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in Spanish, spoken and written preferred.
- Previous experience working with diverse population, including those living in low-income, distressed neighborhoods.
Physical Requirements
The position requires driving, navigating stairs, bending, stooping and infrequent lifting up to 10 Lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Schedule Requirements
The Milwaukee Women’s Shelter is a 24-hour, 365 days a year facility. Your schedule will vary.
