Art Instructor – Community Outreach
Part-Time | $14–$16/hour (based on experience)
Mileage reimbursement for travel between outreach sites
Donna Lexa Art Centers (DLAC) is seeking a creative and collaborative Art Instructor to lead community-based art groups and inclusive open studio sessions for people of all abilities. This role focuses on outreach programming at partner sites throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, with optional additional teaching hours available at DLAC studios.
Position Overview
- Schedule: 5–12 hours/week to start (some evenings may be required); may increase over time
- Reports to: Program Manager
- Compensation: $14–$16/hour depending on experience + mileage reimbursement
Who We Serve
DLAC participants include:
- Adults and teens with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities
- Veterans, including those with PTSD
- Older adults, including those living with dementia
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Art Therapy, Media Arts, or commensurate experience in a related field.
Experience:
- Leading or co-leading small art groups (6–10 people)
- Working with diverse populations with varying abilities and support needs
- Familiarity with a range of 2D and 3D media (painting, sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, etc.)
Required:
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
Responsibilities
- Lead outreach art groups at partner sites
- Optionally teach on-site classes at DLAC studio locations in addition to outreach
- Plan and prepare inclusive art lessons tailored to each group’s interests and abilities
- Demonstrate techniques in a variety of media while supporting creative autonomy
- Supervise and support volunteers during sessions
- Maintain organized materials and support studio setup/cleanup
- Prepare brief lesson plans, group notes, and basic reports as needed
- Support general administrative needs such as timekeeping, attendance tracking
