CLIENT/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) is a non-profit medical professional society of influential scientists, academicians, researchers, clinicians, government representatives, and industry leaders from around the world dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by advancing the science and application of cancer immunotherapy.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the society Associate Executive Director and working closely with the society leadership and appropriate committees, the Director of Education is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the Education Team, including coordination of all staff functions associated with the planning, design, implementation and reporting of all in person and online educational activities. The Director of Education develops the Society’s educational strategy and works as part of the team of directors in the overall management of the Society. Responsible for the oversight of multiple facets of adult education development, including developing education activities, managing strategic collaborative relationships, organizing existing resources into a comprehensive educational curriculum, developing and managing project budgets, and adhering to applicable guidelines in keeping with the strategic plan and objectives set forth by the Society leadership.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
- In concert with the appropriate committees and executive staff, develop the educational strategy, overall policies, procedures and timelines for all educational activities, and oversee all education-related activities and special projects of the Society to meet its mission and serve as an educator to all stakeholders regarding cancer immunotherapy
- Effectively lead, mentor and oversee the education team. Direct and coordinate their efforts on behalf of the society and ensure cross-team implementation of key society educational initiatives and strategies in appropriate areas
- Interface with organizing committees and other volunteer leaders in the development and implementation of programs in area of responsibility
- Perform assessments of the educational needs of SITC including development of appropriate surveys and other data collection activities
- Monitor trends, analyze learner experiences and research new technologies to incorporate not only into education initiatives, but to propose strategies for ensuring layered educational offerings throughout the Society as a whole
- Oversee and manage strategic collaborative relationships in education activities
- Identify educational gaps within the Society’s educational curriculum and determine solutions for filling gaps, such as exploring opportunities for the Society to create new educational offerings and researching other external resources
- Develop a comprehensive education curriculum utilizing multiple educational formats (i.e. in person meetings, webinars, self paced courses, etc.) for the Society and provide oversight of the online platform that hosts the curriculum
- Oversee the development and implementation of enduring materials and online educational components from live education activities including, but not limited to, session recordings, posted slides, manuscripts, etc.
- Oversee the implementation of educational activity evaluations and other outcomes measurement requirements, and manage the reporting of outcomes, utilizing appropriate learning measurement tools and success metric for effective program evaluation
- Oversee the development of appropriate education plans and proposals, including program outlines, delivery formats, educational content, faculty and required technologies for successful learner interventions
- Work with Education, Meetings and Communications teams to determine overall policies, procedures, and schedules for all educational activities
- Work with the Development team for educational grant and reporting needs
- Work with the Communications team and relative staff to develop effective marketing strategies and ensure education communications plans are appropriate and directed to the appropriate audience
- Secure CME/CE joint providers for appropriate educational activities
- Ensure all SITC programming maintains compliance with any relevant accreditation guidelines, as well as those of other international CE providers, through the application of appropriate design, methodology and assessment models (ACCME, PhRMA, etc). This includes ensuring conflict of interest identification and resolution is documented and followed for all education programs
- Ensure all activities are in compliance with funder Letters of Agreement (LOAs) and collaborative agreements
- Oversee and develop appropriate educational budgets
- Stay updated on new technologies, best practices, and industry trends to identify innovative strategies and solutions in areas of responsibility
- Direct and supervise education staff
- Attend educational meetings to manage onsite activities, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under time and resource pressure. Project management, meeting planning and communications experience desired.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills required.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and adult learning principles. Those with medical or scientific education background a plus.
- Ability to work independently but also with teams, both internally and externally.
- Must meet deadlines and have an acute attention to detail.
- Must be comfortable with learning and using new technologies and software. Intermediate or advanced skills with Word processing and Excel spreadsheets in MS Office environment essential. Experience with CMS and web conferencing preferred.
- Must be able to think strategically, multi-task effectively and work successfully in a team environment
- Detail and results-oriented, with strong knowledge of budget processes and evaluation of outcomes analysis
- Exemplary interpersonal, organizational skills and precise attention to detail
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field preferred
- Previous association management experience and familiarity with nonprofit boards of directors preferred
- Supervisorial experience required
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
- Travel of up to 6 weeks per year
- Some evening and weekend work, as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.

- Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds

- Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required to meet client needs.
- Attendance at the annual meeting is required.
