Work Study/Intern Community Organizer – Job Description

**Hours:** Part-time (work study eligible); flexible scheduling available
**Compensation:** Based on work study eligibility

ESTHER is a grassroots, interfaith organization that develops leaders, engages people, and builds collective power in the Fox Valley to address economic and social injustices. We work to create more equitable communities that embrace diversity and uphold human dignity.
Position Summary
ESTHER is seeking a passionate and reliable Work Study student to support our ongoing advocacy and community organizing efforts in one or more of the following focus areas:
- Immigration and Immigrant Rights
- Equity and Racial Justice
- Transformational Justice (focused on carceral system reform)
This position offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to real social change, gain organizing experience, and engage directly with community members, leaders, and coalitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and outreach for educational events, rallies, and advocacy campaigns
- Conduct research
- Attend task force meetings and take notes
- Support community engagement by helping build relationships with impacted individuals and partner organizations
- Help maintain ESTHER’s social media
- Participate in direct organizing efforts, including phone/text banks and door-to-door outreach (as appropriate)
- Adhere to an ethical code; which includes but is not limited to identifying conflicts of interest
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in social justice, community engagement, or related fields
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to racial equity and inclusive practices
- Organized, dependable, and able to manage time independently. Collaborative self-starter.
- Communicates effectively in written and spoken English.
- Proficient in an additional language (preferred but not required).
