Job Expectations and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • serve students at two MPS bilingual schools
  • prepare and maintain a room in the school for tutoring
  • individually assess students, write personalized lesson plans, and assemble materials for each child for each session using the Book Buddies research-based framework
  • build positive relationships and work closely with school staff to identify students for the program and create tutoring schedules
  • be present in the tutoring room for all sessions to provide mini-lesson, model, observe, support, and coach tutors
  • maintain all necessary records of student progress and attendance
  • report children’s progress to families and teachers through conferencing and written correspondence
  • participate in open houses and parent-teacher conferences
  • collaborate with the executive director to develop training & curriculum and assist with recruiting tutors
  • communicate openly and honestly with the executive director and site coordinator team during weekly meetings knowing that your voice matters
  • Follow the MPS Traditional Calendar for work days with the addition of one week before and one week after for work with our team
  • 20 hours of summer and/or evening/weekend work to grow and support our program—hours will mostly be self-selected doing work related to your own interests

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience in kindergarten through third grade
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess and model a growth mindset
  • Urban teaching experience with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Fierce belief in the ability of every student to succeed
  • Asset-based thinker ready to lead adult and student learning
  • Desire to work collaboratively with a team and think critically about opportunities for growth and learning
  • Bilingual (Spanish English)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Reading Teacher and/or Reading Specialist Degree
  • Five or more years of K5-3rd grade teaching or providing student interventions
  • Teacher leader/coaching experience

Pay & Benefits

  • $63,000-$65,750 based on professional and educational experience + bonus for Spanish support & translating
  • Health Care stipend ($6,700), Group Dental Plan, and Retirement stipend ($4,700)
