Job Purpose

The Community Engagement Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Executive Director and is responsible for the organization’s community engagement efforts. The Community Engagement Coordinator will cultivate relationships with fellow employees, partner organizations, donors, stakeholders, and volunteers. The Coordinator is a leader in fundraising events, develops resource growth strategies, maintains a social media presence, and keeps wider stakeholders informed on how their role is impacting food justice in the communities served by Friedens. Our community is multicultural and multilingual, therefore candidates with Spanish proficiency are highly encouraged to apply.

Primary Functions

Volunteer Management and Experience

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Food Center Managers, and Volunteer & Development Coordinator to develop a meaningful volunteer experience.
  • Identify key volunteers and stakeholders and deepen their engagement with our mission
  • Connect volunteers and stakeholders to a variety of meaningful ways to support the organization
  • Oversee volunteer onboarding, training, and appreciation

Communications & Development

  • Lead staff in generating social media content and e-newsletters
  • Generate development materials such as letters of interest, grants, and reports as part of the working fund development team.
  • Maintain relationships with existing sponsors and engage new sponsors
  • Lead in special events such as block parties, annual fundraiser, and community outreach
  • Serve as agency spokesperson as needed.

Program and Site Development

  • Works with the Executive Director, board of directors, and other organization leaders to develop and implement organizational strategic plans.
  • Lead in the organization’s program development and evaluation activities.
  • Works closely with Food Center Managers and Leadership Staff to provide operational support and standardization to sites as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities 

  • Affinity with the overall mission of Friedens
  • Excellent communication skills- listening, speaking, and writing.
  • Ability to relate comfortably with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, social, educational and economic backgrounds who work at our pantries and use our services
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications, experience with CRM preferred.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, grow, and work as a team.

Salary range: $43,000-$45,000

Work Type: Salaried, Full Time (100%)


Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Required Experience:  n/a

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s

Preferred Experience:

Field: Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, English, or related

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Open office workspace with active team atmosphere in addition to approved work-from-home arrangements

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids.
