Join the Executive Board of GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee

GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee is seeking a community-connected leader to serve as President-Elect. As part of a national network of 62+ Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, our Milwaukee Playhouse is 99% volunteer-run and 100% community-funded. We provide free therapeutic and educational programming that supports individuals with Down syndrome from pre-natal diagnosis through adulthood.

Qualifications

We are looking for a passionate advocate with strong organizational skills and a deep connection to the Milwaukee community. Whether you have experience in non-profit governance or corporate leadership, your ability to inspire others is our top priority.

Commitment & Schedule

Board Meetings: 1–2 hours, once a month.

Monthly Average: Approximately 30 hybrid hours per month (6-8 hours/week), including strategic planning, community outreach, and committee oversight.

The Leadership Transition

To ensure a seamless transition, the President-Elect will serve in a shadowing capacity for 6–12 months. This period allows you to become fully immersed in our mission and operations before succeeding the current Board President for a standard 2–3 year term.

Core Responsibilities

As the primary visionary for the Playhouse, the President, with support from the Board Officers & staff, oversees the following key areas:

Strategic Oversight & Governance

  • Visionary Leadership: Provide strategic direction and ensure the Playhouse meets annual Board Health & Strategy (SOE) benchmarks.
  • Board Management: Preside over monthly board meetings and oversee the recruitment and management of committee heads.
  • Succession Planning: Proactively identify and recruit future board officers to ensure a healthy “leadership pipeline” and continuous influx of fresh ideas.
  • National Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for the GiGi’s Playhouse Inc. national office and participate in monthly Network President’s calls.

Community & Culture

  • Ambassadorship: Represent GiGi’s Playhouse within the local community and cultivate partnerships with local businesses and donors.
  • Core Values: Embody the “Generation G” philosophy, challenging the world to be accepting, generous, and kind.

Operations & Financial Health

  • Financial Stewardship: Monitor financial health by maintaining sufficient cash reserves and managing intercompany billings.
  • Staff Management: Ensure effective communication and management of Playhouse staff.
  • Tactical Support: Collaborate with the board to ensure projects and committee action items are completed on schedule.
