Grand Avenue Club is a nationally recognized rehabilitative community dedicated to supporting people recovering from serious mental illness.

Candidates for this position should possess an understanding of mental illness and a belief in strengths-based approaches to engagement and recovery.  Central to this position is the engagement of members in all aspects of clubhouse operations. Program Coordinators have a generalist role and therefore share responsibilities for employment, evening/weekend, wellness, and social programming. 

Candidates must have a passion for excellence and thrive in a community setting where relationship-building is a priority and multi-tasking is the norm. Program Coordinators are assigned to a unit (Membership, Education and Employment, Culinary, Retail and Business Management, Marketing and Development), which carries with it specific responsibilities of that unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage members in the operation of the clubhouse, working side-by-side with members, focusing on their strengths, talents, and abilities.
  • Assist members in effectively accessing all Clubhouse services, including housing, employment, education, assistance, wellness, and socialization opportunities.
  • Utilize Clubhouse model techniques effectively (meaningful member engagement, authentic relationships, operating by consensus)
  • Develop vocational opportunities within the unit consistent with the varying levels of readiness and capabilities of members.
  • Complete required administrative work in a timely manner including time sheets, mileage logs, service logs, vocational logs, action plans and progress notes.
  • Provide job placement and coverage services for 2 to 3 Transitional Employment positions in the greater Milwaukee community.
  • Participate in special activities both within the Grand Avenue Club and within the community to promote goodwill and raise awareness about the Clubhouse model.
  • Facilitate special initiatives/groups (young adult; older adult; wellness; diversity, equity, and inclusion;) in partnership with members.
  • Provide coverage on a rotating basis for evening, weekend, and holiday social activities.
  • Attend and participate in morning meetings, policy meetings, and unit planning meetings.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as they arise.
  • Assist with the development of relationships with local foundations, donors, employers, colleges, universities, and public schools as needed.
  • Perform other duties related to the operation of the Clubhouse as requested by the Program Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing community resources.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and written.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to plan, implement and follow through on projects relating to the position.
  • Ability to effectively train others with varied learning styles as well as the ability to facilitate individual and group activities.
  • Maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation in compliance with agency requirements.

Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, community health or a related field not required but preferred.
  • Experience working directly with people with severe mental illness, or familiarity with serious mental illness is not required but preferred.
  • Two years of successful and relevant work experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook  
  • First Aid training and CPR certification are a plus.
