POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bookkeeper will maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements. This position is responsible for daily financial transactions, recording, and reporting, supporting the financial health and transparency of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and update the general ledger using [e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Sage Intacct, or other software].
- Record daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Process donations and grants, ensuring accurate donor records and acknowledgment letters.
- Track restricted and unrestricted funds according to grant and donor requirements.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports for leadership and board members.
- Manage payroll processing and related tax filings in coordination with HR and external providers.
- Assist with preparation for annual audits and 990 tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting principles (e.g., FASB standards).
- Maintain organized digital and paper financial records for reporting and audit readiness.
- Monitor budget-to-actual expenses and flag variances.
- Support grant reporting with accurate expenditure tracking.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 3+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB 116 & 117)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks for Nonprofits, Xero, or similar)
- Familiarity with donor management and fundraising systems is a plus
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial data
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and formulas
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff and external partners
