Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and organized Part-Time Food Pantry Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our community food pantry. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving those in need and ensuring the efficient distribution of food resources. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.


  1. Daily Operations Management:
    • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the food pantry, including receiving, stocking, and distributing food donations.
    • Ensure all food handling and storage procedures meet health and safety standards.
    • Supervise and support staff and volunteers during the day-to-day operations.
  2. Inventory and Resource Management:
    • Order and receive food and validate invoices from food banks and vendors.
    • Track food donations and expiration dates and maintain accurate records of inventory.
    • Collaborate with community partners and food suppliers to procure donations and maintain supply levels.
  3. Staff, Client, and Community Engagement:
    • Oversee staff and volunteers to provide excellent customer service to pantry clients and create a welcoming environment.
    • Assist staff and volunteers to help clients access food resources and provide information on additional support services.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors, and donors.
  4. Administrative Duties:
    • Assist the Office Administrator to maintain pantry records and generate reports on food distribution activities.
    • Assist the Executive Director with budget planning and expense tracking related to pantry operations.
    • Participate in meetings with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to discuss pantry initiatives and improvements.
  5. Training and Development:
    • Train staff and volunteers on pantry operations, safety protocols, and client interaction guidelines.
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for staff and volunteers, promoting teamwork and collaboration.


  • Previous experience in food pantry management, social services, or nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move boxes of food items, up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods during shifts.

Schedule and Compensation:

  • Part-time position, approximately 15-20 hours per week (schedule may vary based on pantry needs). Over 20 hours per week must be approved by the Executive Director.
  • $20 per hour plus PTO.

IFP provides compassion in two ways: through kindness and respect and through the quality of the food we serve our guests! Interchange is a second food pantry for those who need further assistance after visiting their neighborhood pantry.

History and Background:

The Interchange Food Pantry began in 1971, serving the Lower East Side of Milwaukee.

In May 2018, the Pantry became a Milwaukee city-wide pantry. Over the past five years, the Pantry has grown dramatically. At the end of 2019, the number of guests served annually was 13,781, and at the end of 2023, the number of guests served annually was 79,012.
