The JCC is seeking a motivated and dependable Staff Accountant to join our team. The Accounting team reports up through the Chief Financial Officer, along with Human Resources and Scholarship Administration. Our ideal candidate is adaptable and detail-oriented and is interested in supporting and improving the accounting process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Prepares and enter journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Assist with timely reviews of organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Performs variance reviews and provides corrective actions and entries as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of departmental and agency-wide budget.
  • Assist with other accounting functions such as taxes, periodic and yearly financial reports.
  • Assists with special financial and business-related studies and cooperates with other departments in preparing analyses.
  • Performs financial internal audits by understanding organization objectives, structure, policies, processes, internal controls, and external regulations and completing audit programs.
  • Plays an active role in the continuous improvement of the existing corporate programs and processes.
  • Assists with external audits of agency’s accounts.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Attend and build relationships with JCC staff and lay committees.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Reviews and manages daily cash reconciliation.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepares, records, verifies, analyzes and reports accounts receivable transactions, and posts customer payments on a timely basis.  Ensure timely collection of cash receipts from customers.
  • Maintains and reconciles accounts receivable ledger accounts, financial statements and reports.
  • Adheres to accounts receivable policies and procedures and ensures external and internal controls and policies are adhered to.
  • Assists in identifying potential problem accounts and sends follow-up correspondence.  May produce reports of accounts that are in arrears and analyses of bad debt and prepares analyses and reconciliations of bill runs to detect fraud.  Reviews and monitors credit sources, credit files, customer applications and delinquent accounts.
  • Provide a variety of credit and collection functions.
  • Sets up camp payment plans and process monthly payments in CampMinder.
  • Obtain required information from credit organizations, banks, and loan associations.
  • Collects daily reconciliations and prepares bank deposits.
  • Sets up and mails out monthly billings.
  • Gets authorizations for camp payments for Shiluv campers and some star programs from various government agencies.

Compliance

  • Keep up to date on government regulations affecting JCC policies and practices complying with legal requirements and government reporting regulations.
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibilities as assigned for JCC special events.
  • Must actively promote and practice the organization’s Positive Rules of Communication.
  • Assume Manager on Duty responsibilities as assigned which may include a maximum of 2-3 weekend shifts per year.
  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements (KSAs)

  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team with other staff members, HRS JCC members, and community members.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, bank statements, and accounting regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence effectively.
  • Ability to work with frequent, established deadlines is required.
  • Organizational and analytical skills are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
  • Knowledge of accounting software and database software.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Minimum of two years accounting experience; or four years progressively responsible related accounting experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • CPA certification a plus.
  • Not-for-profit experience a plus.
