Kinship Community Food Center, formerly known as Riverwest Food Pantry, is seeking an individual to assist in creating and sharing stories of community and transformation. The Communications & Marketing Coordinator will also improve and develop communication initiatives during this one-year placement with the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
Our Mission
Kinship Community Food Center engages volunteers and neighborhood residents to end hunger, isolation, and poverty. The mission pillars of our work are 1) nourishing food security and wellness, 2) fostering kinship and community engagement and 3) creating stability & economic opportunity. Our fresh food market, urban farm, and collaborative meals expand food access while teaching healthful habits and skills in a community of belonging where crisis assistance and mentoring is made available. We believe no one is so deprived that they have nothing to give, and no one is so well-off that they no longer have needs.
Position Responsibilities
- Creating, posting, and analyzing posts on various social media accounts
- Assisting in basic graphic design projects relating to all forms of outreach and communication
- Learning and working in communication platforms such as Salesforce and Hootsuite
- Planning, conducting, and documenting interviews with shoppers and volunteers
- Assisting in the writing, administration, and management of newsletter and email campaigns
- Supporting the writing and management of donor letters
- Updating and adjusting website information when necessary
- Gathering stories and testimonies by engaging one-on-one with community members at the Food Center and Urban Farm
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a similar field (Related experience may be considered in lieu of education)
- Experience with social media from the perspective of an organization preferred
- Understanding of Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram feeds, messages, and other functions
- Willingness to learn other software programs to create and send out communication pieces
- Receptiveness to overall servant leader model and mission of Kinship Community Food Center
- Experience and enthusiasm working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Highly motivated, self-directed with a positive attitude and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Demonstrated organizational, collaborative, interpersonal, and written & verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Microsoft Office experience (preferred), willing to train.
- Willingness to learn and try new things
- Openness to work within a Christian/Catholic faith-based environment based on social justice principles.
- Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance, and transportation to support work activities

Placement with AmeriCorps VISTA which includes a ~$1,900/month stipend exempt from state, Social Security, and Medicare tax, a benefits package, and an end of service award; a flexible work environment; and an enthusiastic team of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Working Conditions:
Work Location: Open office workspace with active team atmosphere.
Physical Requirements: Standing and sitting for prolonged periods. Typing on a computer keyboard. Lifting objects of 40 pounds or less.
