Kinship Community Food Center is seeking an individual in this newly-created position with a passion for philanthropy and the right combination of skills to join Kinship’s growing Advancement Office. The Gifts Officer, together with Kinship Leadership, the Advancement team, and the Development Committee, will help to build a Culture of Philanthropy among the staff, board of directors, volunteers, donors, prospective donors, and community partners to change the way hunger is addressed in Milwaukee.

Our Mission
Kinship Community Food Center engages volunteers and neighborhood residents to end hunger, isolation, and poverty. The mission pillars of our work are 1) nourishing food security and wellness, 2) fostering kinship and community engagement and 3) creating stability & economic opportunity.
Our fresh food market, urban farm, café, and collaborative meals expand food access while teaching healthful habits and skills in a community of belonging where crisis assistance and mentoring is made available. We believe no one is so deprived that they have nothing to give, and no one is so well-off that they no longer have needs.
Position Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors to maintain and increase their giving through stewardship and structured Moves Management strategies.
- Solicit and secure major gifts for the annual fund, new programs, and urgent program needs.
- Establish donor portfolio target goals to measurably increase philanthropic revenue by identifying, soliciting and cultivating individual donors and prospects through research, face-to-face meetings and tours, presentations, and community events.
- Collaborate with the Advancement Director to integrate prospect research and donor profiles into solicitation and donor identification strategies for the annual fund and capital campaign.
- Perform excellent donor stewardship through timely gift acknowledgement, donor recognition, and by engaging individual donors in food center events and activities.
- Document donor actions, meetings, calls, contacts and plans in the Salesforce database to ensure effective and accurate tracking and reporting.
- Work collaboratively within the Development and Communications members to ensure cohesive implementation of annual giving plan with philanthropic activities, events, collateral development and marketing strategies.
- Support Advancement Director in the planning and implementation of a capital campaign to support a new facility for our community food center.

Desired Requirements
- Receptiveness to overall servant leader model and mission of Kinship Community Food Center
- Bachelor’s Degree in Philanthropy, Communications, Business, or related experience preferred
- 5-7 years of work experience in nonprofit or mission-focused work, or related field, managing high level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $5,000 and above.
- Gifts Officer must be action-oriented, approachable, sincere, passionate, and curious with strong listening skills, empathy, and tact
- Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism.
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse group of shoppers, volunteers, co-workers, and donors.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements.
- Excellent grasp of CRM database software, Salesforce a plus.
- Highly motivated, self-directed with a positive attitude and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Interested in working in an environment that supports Catholic spirituality and social justice.
- Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance, and transportation to support work activities

A competitive annual salary of $65,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience), benefits package, a flexible work environment, an enthusiastic team of dedicated staff and volunteers.
Working Conditions
Work Location: Open office workspace with active team atmosphere.
Physical Requirements: Standing and sitting for prolonged periods. Typing on a computer keyboard. Lifting objects of 40 pounds or less.
Equipment Used: Computer, printer/copier.
