Job Summary:  Legal Aid Society’s Consumer Protection Project (CPP) has an opening for a Full-time Staff Attorney at our Downtown campus. The CPP Staff Attorney will focus on consumer protection issues involving student loan debt, garnishments, auto loan contracts, and litigation involving cutting-edge consumer debt issues in State and Federal Court. The practice team will also represent individuals in a limited number of bankruptcy filings. The Staff Attorney will work closely with the CPP Managing Attorney as part of a team dedicated to real change through impactful legal services.   

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Represent individuals in State and Federal Court on a host of consumer matters
  • Represent individuals and engage in community clinics and education surrounding consumer debt issues
  • Creative and thorough legal research and analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree
  • Resourceful, unflappable approach to challenges
  • Passion for social justice and commitment to working with low-income communities and communities of color to advance equity
  • Excellent communication skills — verbal and written
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passage of  Criminal Background Check;
  • COVID-19 vaccination
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required
