Meta House is growing! We are searching for a creative, energetic, and compassionate Chief Operating Officer (COO) to support our growth strategy and help lead the agency into its next chapter. The COO will lead a team of high-performing professionals committed to serving our mission and our clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong human resources background, leadership and people management skills, preferably all within a social services or healthcare setting, and the ability to approach our operations with creativity and passion. Ideal candidates will be knowledgeable in nonprofit finances, operational management, and organizational efficiencies.
General Purpose
As a member of the agency’s senior leadership team, the Chief Operating Officer for Meta House will collaborate with the President/CEO in setting and driving organizational vision and operational strategy. The COO will translate strategic objectives into actionable steps and objectively measurable outcomes. In partnership with other senior leadership, the COO will be responsible for monitoring the financial health and viability of Meta House, managing agency-wide operations, overseeing talent management, and building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and organizational outcomes are achieved.
Salary Range: $ $105,000.00-$155,000.00
Essential Functions of the Job
- Implement effective change management strategies to ensure continuity of operations during periods of transition
- Lead departments and managers through organizational assessment process to identify strengths, eliminate inefficiencies and weaknesses, and establish cross-training, bench-building, and succession planning strategies
- Provide consistent operational leadership and support compatible with the mission and core values of Meta House and with the highest level of professional integrity
- Oversee daily operations and the workflows of operational colleagues including those overseeing facilities and human resources
- Supervise core financial operations for the organization including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, financial audits, and budget creation/management in collaboration with President/CEO and outsourced CFO
- Monitor monthly financials and agency-wide operations to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled
- Provide President/CEO with timely and accurate financial information regarding the financial condition of the organization
- Create and monitor budgets and reports related to special projects and grants
- Ensure the maintenance, upkeep, and security of agency facilities and infrastructure by allocating appropriate resources to same
- Analyze and enhance processes and procedures for recruiting, onboarding, professional development, goal setting, performance management, workplace safety/productivity and accommodations, retention, and effective employee separation
- Serve as primary liaison with external vendors for financial and other professional services, ensuring superior service and competitive market rates for same
- Design and implement compensation and benefits packages to ensure competitiveness with market trends and oversee annual wage/salary evaluation and budget projections
- Oversee human resources and talent management functions
- Manage all liability and other insurance coverage needs and any related claims
- Ensure adherence to agency, federal, state, and local requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary, including overseeing audit processes

- Reporting information to Meta House Board of Directors and liaising with relevant Board Committees
- Other duties as may be periodically or permanently assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Finance, or closely related field which will provide knowledge of the principles of business administration
- Five or more years of full-time experience with comparable work directly related to operations, business, human resources, finance, or related area
- Executive leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
- Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
- Ability to diagnose problems quickly, foresee potential issues, make sound decisions, motivate and hold teams accountable
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and other computer applications (experience with HR Management software preferred)
- An enthusiasm and passion for people and serving the mission of Meta House
- A strong employment and/or service history that reflects leadership, managing high-level operations, teams, and community engagement
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- A team player, and strong problem-solving skills and emotional intelligence
- Attend evening and weekend meetings and events as required

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- All Meta House staff are required to provide proof of vaccination for MMR, Varicella, COVID-19, and annual flu shot.
